Non member thought whilst researching

Whether this is correct or not I'm not sure but feel the need to post/point this out.

We are looking into using CL's and before parting with money, ask the wife how difficult that is, I'm researching as best I can.

I understand the need for a differential between members and non members but it's nothing more than tedious to not being able to click the "read more" tab once looking at a specific site, all I'm doing is opening a second Internet window and entering the CL details in Google to gain a review.

Wouldn't it be better to allow non members to gain "in house" reviews??????

Sorry i keep clicking the wrong button! Some CL's have a presence on facebook and their own websites where you can get more information and see reviews from other members. Worth checking out there first, you'll find a great selection of lovely sites, I think
you'll see it's worth joining up to access them.

Quick post on the way out for a nice walk,

Yes we are very very interested in using cl's or the C&cc equivalent I'm not joining both clubs and it is looking like we will join the CC, I have concerns regarding access roads.

As a CL owner do you give the road into your site a description?

And as a ps on another post you made re price, with electric I don't think £15 is too much.

As CLs can only be used by members, presumably that is why you cannot access the details on the CC website.

As far as access roads are concerned, some CL owners give descriptions, others don't.  The only thing you can do, which I've done before now, is to ring the relevant CL owner and ask - once you've become a member!

you can read some reviews for certain CLs, if they are listed on UKcampsites. So this should help. CLs vary greatly, that is their very nature and what makes them so attractive to a lot of CC members. We have used them for 30 plus years, with no problems.
I would recommend you join, and then if you fancy a CL, talk to the owners, ask about it on here, or take a look on Google Earth. If you do a bit of research, then you are less likely to encounter any issues. Only you know what your needs and preferences are,
so hard to post a definitive answer. CLs are member only, so pay the small annual fee and get access to hundreds of lovely places is my advice.Happy

    I agree with TDA.

It's (probably) only the CL network that keeps me in the club these days.

I appreciate that everyone's finances are different but I think that the subscription of either club is well worth it just for the ability to access the network of CLs and CS's.  We joined the C&CC just to use one particular CS which is absolutely wonderful
and bearing in mind we go there two or three times a year it isn't a lot for the privelege of using that site.  Same goes for CLs.

I have concerns regarding access roads.

What sort of concerns?  They all have access suitable for caravans though, as everywhere, those who choose to have larger than usual outfits should also choose to have greater skills. As many CLs (and CSs as well) are in fields, the degree of any slope is
    a greater concern.

Well the story is whilst here in Cornwall we walked past a CL, we were so taken with its idyllic setting when we returned to the car we drove to the site as a test run, I was fully prepared to leave the site we are on now with all the extra costs to relocate to the CL.

But the way in was almost too narrow for the car with one corner requiring a shunt to get round, the only other road was better but with narrow sections that had overhanging branches two tight corners. I was able to locate a pdf on the site written by the CC that said unsuitable for larger caravans, well define larger.

The site was empty we then understood why. I'm very concerned about access, hopefully our weekend requirements are met, that's our main concern, but we do know of a Cornish CL just off a main road again empty which we will call at before going home.

CC, you can also find reviews of some CLs on the web site www.5van.co.uk.

The C&CC's equivalent to CLs are CSs but they can take tents as well as 5 units, caravans &/or M/Hs. CLs are only supposed to take 5 units.

I think that you have been extremely unlucky in what you have seen. In thirty years of using CLs with a 7.5 or 8 metres van we have never come across one we couldn't get to. Two we would have used said in the site information that they were not suitable
for larger vans so we didn't try.

I could be wrong but the one we really liked was Penpol Farmhouse. It's hard to be sure when using a mobile phone to search with, it does look like the one.

    Incredibly beautiful location.

That's the one CC. It has very good reviews on the club's web site and although some do mention the road as being narrow none say that it caused them any major problem.

Well maybe it's me being over cautious,  I wouldn't want to tow along there without the trees being cut.

I can highly recommend it as a location, it's beautiful a short walk over a small stone bridge to the rivers edge, perfect is the only way to describe it.

So CC let me see if I've got this right, I pay for the privilege of reading reviews and you want people who aren't members to have the privilege and not pay?  As a member I am against the CC giving access to CT etc to non members

I have been doing extensive research not just with the C C but also the C&CC, the later are allowing me even though I'm not a member to read reviews, which seems ultimately sensible from controlling content with respect of fair reviews.

As far as CT goes, quite frankly you can keep it, If the people here represent who I may meet on site then I think it's the C&CC and their CS network, one site we went to look at today, will get our business.

I see this forum as a resource for people such as myself to receive specific information that can't be found on the main web pages.
