Our 1st CL Holiday

So this Easter we chose to start our season off with a 3 night stay on a CL in Gloucestershire.  Apart from the weather it's been quite an enjoyable stay and we've actually liked the fact that although it's full, it's quite quiet compared with the last bank
holiday that we spent at Cirencester CC site last May.  The toilet facilities were a little bit of a shock, but at least we do have them!  What did surprise is the fact 2 very large motorhomes were allowed to park in an L Shape nose to tail and the guests
were allowed to stay overnight.  Overall though, based on this experience we would try another CL and of course the best thing of all is we paid just £45 for 3 nights away in a very beautiful location.

Glad you had a good time Catherinef. The majority of our UK time is spent on CL's, very rarely stay on main sites!

Great to hear you are enjoying being on a CL Catherine.  We have stayed at Passage Farm and agree it's a lovely CL.

Life on CLs is different! Not so rule bound as Club Sites, inch perfect parking seldom required. Welcome to relaxed, quieter touring!

Just got to find more sites like Passage Farm within an hours drive from the Trowbridge area of Wiltshire.  I've been trawling through website, but I've been dismayed when I've read a lot of the reviews.  Probably going to try the Kings Arms at All Cannings as that would be good for a Friday night getaway in the summer as I don't finish work until quite late.

Not quite sure what your requirements are Catherine, but there are a lot of very nice CLs out there. occasionally people do nit pick on CL reviews, expecting similar standards to Club Sites. Some are like this, but not the majority, and to be honest, tend to be all the nicer for being a bit more relaxed. Requiring toilets and showers will limit your options, as these are a huge outlay with little return on a five van limit, but there are some sites out there. We used a lovely CL near Upton on Severn a couple of years ago, that had a nice clean toilet, and lovely garden pitches. I will try and find its name and get back to you!

Glad you enjoyed Passage Farm, Catherine. One to mark down for the future for us. Have you had a look at Alice Street Farm near From - very nice CL which might suit. Also, not a CL and maybe too close to home for you, have you ever tried Stowford Manor Farm?
Haven't been for a couple of years now but it used to be one of our favourites for a quick getaway when both working. Quiet spot down by the river, basic WC and shower and great cream teas from the farmhouse! Happy

Greenaces and Greenacres Farm CL near Bibury are good, probably within easy travelling distance.

It is called The Willows, Upton on Severn, Worcestershire. Click on "see all reviews" and you can read both our review and Nellie the Hookers, who recommended this lovely site to us!

Hi TakeTheDog.  We need EHU and for them to be dog friendly, some hardstanding would be nice for Winter and Spring.  A toilet is a nice thing to have but not absolutely essential.

I tried to find greenacres as I'd seen it mentioned elsewhere but couldn't find it, has anyone got a link?  Will also look at the one at Upton as we like that area.

You will be fine at The Willows then! We have two Labs, so need good dog facilities. Make sure you read more than just the three reviews each CL page first allows, you will get a much clearer picture of CL over a longer period, in all seasons as well. You
soon learn to pick out the odd, shall we say "strange" review, from all the others that say how good things are. Be aware that occasionally, even though it isn't allowed, you will get the odd review from someone who hasn't actually stayed a night on the CL
    in question! It does happen!Happy

Catherine you will enjoy The Kings Arms at All Cannings, Richard the landlord is very hospitable, dogs are allowed in the pub and the walk to and along the canal are good, villagers are very friendly, go for it.

Catherine, I can back up what tda says about the Willows. The lane that passes the site is quiet, and there is a footpath across fields close by. It does have a toilet and a couple of H/S. Another in that area is Emblem Villa, with has EHU & H/S but no toilet.
    Would recommend both.

Both Greenacres sites are good, only one has H/S and neither has a toilet. Plenty of quiet lanes, footpaths & bridalways close by. We have used one or other of these two nearly every year for the last 8 yrs.

Catherine, your post concerning a route home tomorrow has reminded me of the CL we stayed on at Minchinghampton that should suit you. Burnt Ash Farm, no 708 in the site directory. Mainly grass but at least 1 H/S pitch, with a toilet and great showers. The
only drawback is the traffic noise from a cattle grid close to the farm, but we soon got used to it. Great site for walking on the Common.

Think we are on the same site as you right now ( Passage Farm). Been caravanning 35 years and this must be up in the top 10 of cls for us. So much space and excellent service pitches, we don't worry about the two motor homes as they feel quite some distance
from us.  Isn't the area fabulous for walking and cycling and we can recommend the pub!

Do CL's tend to still require you to arrive by 8pm, or can it be later?  Greenacres looks to be 10 pm is that the norm?  That could be quite handy as I don't finish work until just before 6pm.

Check with the CL owners, they are usually very accommodating I find, but it does differ on each CL.

Just let Alan, the owner, know what time you intend to arrive. You will find a list giving your pitch number/letter on the gate into the site. The site is just before the farm house, and you will have to stop on the road so as to open the entrance gate. I'm sure you will enjoy your stay.

We don't specify a latest arrival time but simply ask those arriving late to be mindfull of those that are already on the site. It is also helpful if late arrivals can give an indication as to when they expect to arrive.  I look forward to welcoming catherinef
at the end of April and thanks to H&T, BB and NTH for recomending us.
