Gems of CLs
I know when we find them we like to keep them quiet for ourselves But can anyone recommend a good CL in the south lakes or Yorkshire dales area? Preferably with EHU though not essential. More importantly nice walking, and peaceful, maybe a pub nearby.

I think you're all being a little harsh. He hasn't said 'he' keeps the little gems to himself, he says he is aware that people do. And he is right, we do tend not to share a good CL if we find one, although this can be detrimental to the whole site network
as if CL's don't get business, they end up closing! I would be inclined to give the benefit of the doubt on the OP and give him some tips for good CL's if anyone has some. Don't be too quick to judge.0 -

Surely sharing of "gems" would ensure plentiful trade and weed out sub-standard CLs, or at least prompt them to up their game. It could result in an overall improvement of the CL network.

Yes, but he could have been using 'we' as in we caravaners and not my wife and I. I certainly read it that way.Come back Steve and tell us what you meant.
Personnally I map search the area and then read the reviews as that way I hopefully get a balanced review of the site and not that one person thought it was good. Also one person finds a site and thinks its good so always goes there and there may be a far better one up the road. My way takes longer than just asking for a recommendation but ensures I get an overall view.

I promise I won't tell anyone elseGood god! This site beggars belief sometimes! Poor you, a tongue in cheek post and then metaphorically lynched. I've only been to one but it is blinking lovely. 5 Hardstanding pitches in the grounds of an old hall, Wortley Hall is the site. Fantastic pub
at the end of a long (ish) drive (half a mile) and EHU. It's definitely worth a visit0 -

Exactly what I thought when I read it too!
And I said similar on the first page when I said it was perhaps meant as the "Royal" we, as in "we caravanners/ motorhomers". I certainly didn't read it that the OP and his partner like to keep quiet about it.

So did the first post actually warrant the first sentence. The OP only wanted a recommendation.
As he hasn't received any of note can I suggest a read of members site reports in the cl section will get probably more reports than what he will get on here.

We are currently on a gem. Lovely big field, gorgeous views, in a pretty village, we can hear Flying Scotsman hooting in distance. Coast a few miles away, moors and forests on doorstep, pub with good beer and delicious food within a mile, walks direct from
site. Dogs and children welcome. £11 a night.

Never mind OP, it has been very busy on moors with traffic racing around to get the best views. That little layby I mentioned is closed off, there are British Transport Police up here helping steward, and it is just too close to the line! I was lucky enough
just to drive down to Levisham, park up and watch and video as she rolled into the station. Wonderful sight, full of happy smiling people!0 -

We just arrived at woody kiln farm cl
Outstanding facilities
16 amp hook up , water tap and tv & satellite hook up on all pitches 3 hardstanding 2 grass .And super fast wifi (fast enough to stream) and all for £10 a night . Owners cannot do enough for you . 20 minute walk to the beach .
Chose this one as it's perfect for a part of the pembrokeshire coast path which we have not done .
Pub in village which is a 2 minute stroll (not used yet) a mini market just over a mile away .fair views from all pitches .
Only downer is a rookery a field away .
Not in the book yet .Google woody kiln farm
It's in my top ten of cl's I have stayed at

Beg pardon! I forgot to mention site name. Ashfield House Caravan Site., under Pickering in book. Basic facilities, taps, Cdp, but free reliable wifi. Location is all in this instance!
Crows as well, and seagulls. But we love them, give me natural sounds above traffic, city noise, TVs, anyday!

How have all the M/Hs managed on the wet grass?

MHs have been fine. We got the gate pitch we were on last year, but as a large MH with new owners was due in, we helped out by moving onto CL area, but up by hedge near facilities, and put our MH on its waffles, just in case. (We had Jeep with us as well).
Smallish PVC Autosleeper walked ground carefully and pitched up accordingly, with no problems. Large van arrived with a pretend 4x4, he unhitched and decided to use motor mover. Bad move, before he could even get it moving his van had sunk, he didn't check
the ground before unhitching. OH got him out with Jeep, put his van on pitch, then he nearly got car stuck in same place!
Smaller van arrived later, again unhitched and proceeded to twirl van around with mover, ensuring pivot wheel sank in good and proper! Bit of shoving got him out and into pitch.
He
was then given some wood blocks to put wheels on to prevent any more sinking.All visitors had been told ground was a tad soft. In truth it wasn't that bad, but just needed some care and forward planning! Such as a proper 4x4, walk the ground first, use your big mover rather than your hand gadget and bring some blocks to put wheels
on! Great spectator sport though, and at least we were able to help! Ground had dried up greatly as I left in Jeep, OH won't have

If your Oh can't sort them out with the Jeep then there would certainly have been some problems. Hope they
thanked him in an appropriate manner.

Yes, Jeep and me at home! OH had fun, wasn't too stuck, but needed a bit more than owners car to give it a push. We suggested helping, to avoid damage to grass, they were a very nice couple, looking a tad worried! Very busy all CLs around, lots of folks
up there to see Flying Scotsman. That looks a nice CL at Fox and Rabbit, but a bit pricey. HS though I think!0
