edited January 2016 in Certificated Locations #1

As the new year has arrived, we sat this morning reflecting on the places and sites we have visited in the last year. We mainly use CLs, so I asked which was the best CL and which would we go back and visit again? We both came up with a number of places
for one reason or another but struggled to pick a 'Best One'. We narrowed it down to two:

Willow Cottage at Burgh le Marsh Lincolnshire. Lovely quiet site with wildlife on view around the pond, two very good restaurants close by, The Windmill and a tapas menu available in The Lakes.

Tree Tops Farm at Hemingby Lincolnshire.  Another quiet CL with open countryside views over the Lincolnshire Wolds. The CL is on a hilltop looking over three other villages in the distance. Great for watching the thunder storms gather and roll over the
site.....which they did! Needless to say both are run by lovely people which adds to our memories as well.

If you had to choose a "best site visited for 2015" could you?

Happy New Year to you all.

Sadly we don't get to visit that many places but for this year my OHs favourite CL was The Plough Inn near Berwick (in fact he has decided that all Cls should have a pub next door!). For me it was Baxter Wood Farm near Durham for the lovely dog walks right
    from the CL.

Not a CL or Club Site for us. West Kyloe Farm, near Berwick, Northumberland.

    Two CLs for us :

Drake House Farm at West Bradford, a bit pricey for a CL, but with serviced pitches and a toilet/shower, oh and did I mention the stunning views of Pendle Hill across the valley?

Field Head Farm near Uttoxeter, a real gem at £12 a night plus £1 for WiFi throughout your stay. Huge west(ish) facing pitches with doe-eyed cows grazing in the field opposite. Toilet but no shower, great selection of books DVDs and information about local walks etc. (And just round the corner from JCB world HQ where you can have breakfast and a guided tour - but sadly not on Bank Holidays when we were there so will have to return in 2016! Wink)

Ouch - still it'll be good value for the peace and quiet and friendly welcome!

Happy. Use left and right arrows to navigate.

For value and location, for me it was 'Marli Farm' a CL near St.Asaph, North Wales.

Well maintained block of two toilets, one shower (20p for 5 minutes), EHU, view over the valley towards Rhyll and all for £10 inclusive of awning. That was the price I paid last year and there is no indication on the site that it has increased.

One of our favourites has been Dunallan CL, just outside Drymen near Loch Lomond.  We've been three times since the summer!  Very basic, no EHU, just water and waste disposal.  £6 a night, with 3 hard standing pitches and the rest laid to grass.  Rural location with some lovely views.

You can walk into Drymen where there's plenty of food and drink options, take a hike along the West Highland Way in either direction (good pub options both ways) or use it as an excellent base for the Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

Best bit for us is that it's 20 minutes from home.

Looks good Dave, but it does say narrow roads. How narrow and for what sort of distance from a main road?

Write your comments here...in their defence they have stayed at that price at £12.50 per night since opening 6 years ago.

Well, we will still happily pay £15 to stay there - if we can get in, that is! Happy

Delighted you liked our walks.  In fact we have now 'mapped' another 12 walks (2-4 hours)  or mountain-bike rides all using bridle-ways and quiet country lanes.  Any keen mountain-bikers out there keen to explore the lovely Chilterns??
