My Guilty Confession –  I don’t really know any Latin  I just look it up on 'tin-ter-net' and I have my suspicions, others do the same!!! .

As for: nil desperandum, my Grandfather’s free translation was: "never lads give way to sorrow" 

The phrase “Nil Desperandum Auspice Deo”.
Roughly translated to mean: “Don't Despair, Trust in God”.
Is the motto of the 'City of Sunderland'.
