I spent quite a few years oop there ,it did not take long for me to work out why after generations of my family had lived there ,they moved to civilisation
May I offer my hearty congratulations to your parents on their decision too JV

Yorkshiremen are clearly linguistically or gastronomically challenged if they think that a Yorkshire Pudding is a first course. The clue is in the name.

really ?
its still there I passed it three weeks ago
what were you, pilot ?
my dad was a wireless technician (regular not NS)
I flew down their ILS when I was doing some instrument flying training.
It's now been sold to a private individual and I also flew in there when they had a (re)opening day.
It's now called Leeds East airport (he's trying to attract business jets from Leeds Bradford).

so is it not RAF anymore?
I am sure it was about five years ago when I called to see if the married quarters house I was born in was still there. It was. Incidentally around the same time I called at RAF Compton Bassett well what remain of the married quarters as the camp is ling
gone, the house I was brought up in my early years was also still there0 -
No, the RAF sold it off.
It was sold to a private individual (a farmer of some sort) who bought it for the land and the fact that he is a keen avaiator (has his own helicopter!).
The 'airfield re-opening' fly-in was in January 2015. There were 100's of aircraft there (including us ).
I believe he rents out some of the buildings for corporate events and the like.
