As far as blue cheeses go you can't beat Yorkshire Blue in my opinion.

Corra Linn, a Scottish cheese from Lanarkshire Is also well worth a mention.

Not a big fan of blue cheese but had an excellent yorkshire blue from a deli in Oakham, so it's now on my favourite list.

I'm also a lover of mouse meat

Hartington blue, Dovedale blue, Huntsman and Stinking bishop are wonderful

Bought some truckles of Hartington cheese today at the Chatsworth House Christmas Market.  Went for  the Mature Cheddar, Caramelised Onion and Chilli and Lime.  Looking forward to sampling it later.

    David

Sounds like a great choice...we're going to the Christmas market tomorrow.

Tonight I'm making a fuss of some Double Barrel mature cheddar.

Cheese  ??  Surprised  Where  ?  ??  Money Mouth

Just  had  a  slice  or  three of  Snowdonia's  Red  Devil  -- almost  makes  me  like  a  certain  KickBall  Team  !!

Yes  Really,  It's  that  good   Wink

Try Snowdonia Black Bomber, too!  It's a very strong 'cheddar type' cheese, which is very very tasty, and very moreish!    We always bring some back from Wales when we visit, and our local Booths stocks it too.

I'm almost sure that Brian will have had Black Bomber as I know that, like myself, always visits the Snowdonia Cheese Stall at the NEC shows.

    David

    Indeed  I  do  !!Happy

Somehow, cheese seems more salty than it used to be.

Well, over the last three days I've decided that M&S invented elasticated waistbands for cheese lovers so i would be impolite not to partake of the odd slice or two so I've had a nice slice of Wensleydale with ginger and cranberry, a slice or two of Blackstick Blue and a wonderfully smelly and ripe Stinking Bishop which did exactly what it said on the tin.

The diet (weight watchers cottage cheese?) can start sometime in neverneverland.

Only  just  noticed  this  post !

Now  I'm  wondering  if  a  scrape  of  cheese

Thanks  for  the  suggestion  KjellNN,  tho'  now  I'm  wondering

if  just  the  though  could  give  me  indigestion   embarassedfrown  ?

I'd forgotten about this thread.  I like cheese from everywhere (including Snowdonia!!! ABM!).  I also like St Agur - the best French Cheese IMHO.  I do like a Camembert, but prefer it done on the BBQ.

We're on a site in Shropshire at the moment and bought a beautiful Shropshire Blue from a deli counter at a farm shop. Creamy with a lovely tang.

Mrs.WN doesn't like too much blue in her blue cheese, if that makes sense, so I get the bluest bits. Perfect.

One cheese I find very salty is Oxford Blue.  I find it can be very variabe,  but if you get a good piece it's worth having.

In between visits to the NEC, I find it's usually Farm shops that stock Snowdonia Cheese.  Beckett's Farm Shop (just up the road from Chapel Lane CAMC Site) usually have some in, but they know how to charge for it!!

I tent to like the Ginger Spice at the moment - it's got a sweetnessential to it, which I find quite nice.  Not so keen on the smoked cheese though.

The Cheshire cheese company have a shop in Bakewell, well worth a visit if you are staying at Chatsworth. Lots of samples to try. The Black Bob extra mature cheddar and Vintage Gold extra aged cheddar were exceptional.

There is a very good cheese shop in Totnes, Devon if you're in the area. Called Country Cheeses, not too far from Steamer Quay. I like to find local cheeses when away.

Not so sure I should be giving you tips after that Welsh remark, Boyo, but if you should sneak across the border one day and find yourself near Hawarden (Gladstones old stomping ground) then call in at Hawarden Farm Shop, on the road to Broughton Aerospace from Hawarden, where they sell Snowdonia Cheese plus a goodly variety of other cheeses.

It's not that far into Wales that you can't beat a hasty retreat!

Bought a nice chunk of Dorset Vinny Blue today at The Mousetrap Cheese shop in Hereford centre. Delicious.

If in Hereford I can recommend this independent shop.

Yesterday we bought Bringewood from Ludlow Farm Centre (on A49 just north of Ludlow). This was a like a cross between a Lancashire and a softer cheese in texture like a Swiss cheese but much nicer. It had won a gold medal at a cheese fair and one could see why. The crust was wshed in cider and gave a nice tang to the cheese. Went down well with the farm centres own Bamley chutney. They have a good selection of cheese here.

Am showing admirable restraint but may not be able to hold out much longer.laughing

Anyone who comes across a soft blue cheese made from Organic cows milk called Pen-Lan should buy it. This is delicious and Welsh to boot.

Love Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese ! Visit the creamery each year between Xmas and New Year, have a Xmas meal family get together in Calvert's restaurant then we all stock up with our favourite cheeses.

Just had a nice piece of Hartington Stilton from the Hartington Cheese shop in Hartington. Can't get more local than that! Goes down a treat with a glass of red. It's a soft textured Stilton and a bit creamy but very moreish.
