Christmas dinner in the caravan

    Had one a few days ago in the van for a guest.

    The wine was a 2014 Chablis.

    Starters - Sweet potato and carrot soup

    Main - Aldi's five bird roast with roast potatoes and parsnips peas and corn.

    Sweet - Individual mini christmas puddings with a cream sauce

    Cheese and biscuits

    Coffees and chocolate liqueurs

    and to finish a Drambui for me.

    I think this will be the first year I've not had to eat more than one Christmas dinner, when we were both working it was usual to have 3 or 4 do's to go to, by the time Christmas day came around I was sick of the sight of Turkey.

    I think this will be the first year I've not had to eat more than one Christmas dinner, when we were both working it was usual to have 3 or 4 do's to go to, by the time Christmas day came around I was sick of the sight of Turkey.

    Usuallly only managed a Christmas dinner on Christmas day even if going out with work or others I tend to choose something, probably veggie, that I wouldn't cook indoors.  For our work do we have a lunchtime buffet at our line manager's house.  So different
    from over priced badly served meals.  It was one of those, at a venue we have used lots of times, workable for all- it had changed hands but we hadn't been told, quiz started up before our main course,; that caused us to make the change and now we have lovely
    food and convial surroundings. Laughing  Solves several problems in one go.

    Write your comments here... I have to admire the effort you have gone to Peedee. My OH rushes round preparing everything and then asks me "Why don't you put the tree up then you can relax for Chritsmas" Do you think she is emphasising a lack of effort on
    my part?

    When going out with my colleagues we used to choose somewhere where we could get a choice so that wasn't a problem, the OH was still serving in the 'forces' so we often had do's where the meal was set, so no choice. When we had christmas day with just the boys, we often had something other than traditional fare, boxing day was usually spent on slopes skiingSmile really miss those christmases.

    Just done a trial of my steamer for the veg, perfect just like I like them, will be using it on the big day now.

    Write your comments here...How did you manage on such low power? You'd need more than that just to run the Alde heating!

    Just ran the fridge and battery charger from the EHU everything else used gas, oven, hob, and heating. We chose the indvidual Christmas puddings from Tescos because they do not need as much steaming as a large one and we don't have a microwave in the motorhome.

    We've just done our Christmas dinner shopping. We bought a small frozen basted whole turkey 2.92 kg. 8 to 16 hours defrost, 1 hour stand and 2hours 8 mins. cooking time. Bernard Matthews Golden Norfolk. We got stuffing, small sausages wrapped in bacon plus some streaky bacon, mixed herbs and gravy. For veg we have parsnips, swede, Brussels sprouts, carrots and potatoes for roasting. We 've also got Christmas pudding and brandy butter! minced pies. For drinks, we have sherry, Champagne, port and brandy. Our shopping bill at Tesco for all today's shopping came to £115.

    By the way, for starters, we have bought two cans of Heinz Cream of Tomato soup and French bread sticks to go with it.

    I forgot to mention, we also have bread sauce, a selection of cheeses and a pack of Christmas cracker biscuits.

    You're certainly not short of anything you've got Winking  Enjoy your Christmas dinner and don't partake of the alcoholic beverages
    too early, you need to keep an eye on everything!

    Write your comments here...Perhaps a glass of sherry and mince pie should do for elevenses. Bottle of Champagne with the meal and perhaps some brandy after the Xmas pudding and later some Port to go with the cheeses and biscuits. By the time we're done it will be time to sit back, relax and watch the Queen's speech on the telly!

    I'm sure you'll enjoy it all; we've had 2 Xmases in our MH in the past, once in Hawes and once in Chirk, and very much enjoyed it.  Both times we went for a long walk in the morning and then started on the preparations, not eating until about 4pm, but that's
    the way we prefer it.  Thoroughly enjoyed it all; have a lovely day Malcolm.

    LaughingNot quite Xmas dinner but a few years ago we had full "xmas " dinner in August on a club CL site , our friends were over
    from South Africa and so we cooked a 4 course meal for 8 of us....including Xmas tree and crackers , and set up a table with the permission of the site owners complete with candles, table pressies and flower arrangements!!!. and a visit from santa with Pressies

    Starters ..smoked salmon or Prawn cocktail ,or Egg Mayo

    Mains : roast Turkey crown , and Roast Pork, roast pots creamed pots Carrots vichy ,peas , sprouts, roast parsnips and sweetcorn( our God daughter's favourite), green beans(all served in veg dishes and meat platters)

     Pud; Christmas plum pud , with brandy cream or Ice Cream ,

    Cheese Board,

    Coffee and mints and mince pies,

    Then Charades and brandy for the adults .

    The children now in their 20's still talk about it as very memorable day , and it was worth all the planning , we took the dishes home to wash, all in black plastic bags .I know lazy but it meant as we were leaving the next day we were able to spend all
    the time with our friends.My friends parents came and it was the last Xmas we all had together as they both died by the next xmas. So if you think its not pssible well belive me it is ,it was fun and has given us some wonderful memories.

    Surely  it's  how  Christmasses  should  be  spent  v==  with  family  &  friends  all  together  !
