I'm hoping Mo Farah will win - he's been overlooked for the past two years but his achievements in his sport are unparalleled. But I fear all the controversy around athletics at the moment may count against him. Andy Murray would be my second choice. But then, they're all superb sportspeople in their own areas. Happy

BTW, what a great atmosphere in the theatre, so much better than some of the old style award ceremonies!

Kevin Sinfield for me. Why? 'Cos despite being a Rhino he really is such a magnificent sportsperson and a terrific role model.

    Andy was a worthy winner.

But for me the high spot of the entire evening was Lizzy Jones singing Danny Boy with the picture of her late husband rounding off the section on those we'd lost this year. I have to admit it left this tough guy and rugby league fan blubbing!

Did Murray actually beat any of the real top players this year?

I had no problem with the Davis Cup team winning Team of the Year but cannot understand how Murray took the top award Frown

    Federer 2 -0 against Murrray

    Djokovic 6 -1 against Murray

Write your comments here...how many times was Hamilton beat on the track this year still no1 how many times has GB golfers been beaten but still at the top , if you think it was undeserved for Murray to win that's fine , but it's also fine for me and others
on this thread to think it was well deserved , so I also rest my case Tongue Out

It has, for many years now, been a sports ACHIEVEMENT of the year competition rather than PERSONALITY of the year. How else would you explain such charismatic figures as Princess Anne, Nigel Mansell and Chris Boardman winning. On that basis, it was a worthy
victory although not my personal choice.

It`s quite simple, he got the most votes.....

I like the guy, I understand he`s not everybody`s cup of darjeeling but in my opinion he was a worthy winner.

See the attached  link for the votes cast  here

Kevin Sinfield did amazingly well and Tyson Fury was an impressive  4th - proving the point that the ones, who were reported to be disgusted at his comments were probably only a noisy minority

Thank  you  for  the  mention  of  the  song  by  Lizzy  Jones,  M  !!

Checked  out  the  song  on  Yahoo  &  found  several  sports-folk  mentioned    whose  'passing'  I  had  sadly  missed  not  the  least  of  which  was  Rosalind  Rowe,  Table  Tennis  .  After  my  "Victor  Barna"  named  bat ( every  body  had  one  of   them )  I  had  a "Rosalind  Rowe"  bat  ==  served  me  well  for  ages  .

Noticed no one mentioned Chris Froome. Think he's done a much for biking as Murray he's for tennis, and as for achievement - 'Tour' TWICE!
