Planet Earth II starts tonight at 8 on BBC. Really looking forward to this having seen some of the trailers. His series are always superb, doing just what the original aims of the BBC were - "to inform, educate and entertain".  It's going to be the highlight
of my weekend viewing for the next few Sundays!  Happy

The programme should be superb.......but it's time they retired Attenborough though.

Surely anyone could sit in a studio reading some words written by someone else.

The whole point of the programme is the film work.

Think he does a bit more than that, Ian! Still head and shoulders above any others in the business, I think! Happy

So refreshing to see a programme without the " look at me " presenters

I have made an official complaint to the BBC about the loud and unnecessary background music which at times drowned out the narrative.  Other than that it was unmissable.

Standard  TV  problem,  Remus.  Its  the  same  with  sport  --  the  background  noise  is  always  two  stops  above  the  commentary.

Watched the programme, thought it was absolutely fantastic.

Ian, you think Attenborough should be replaced, any suggestions by who?

Great programme, loved the end bit where they filmed on the Island.

The problem is Ian not many have the knowledge or experience of David and his relaxed easy presentation skills.  Even at his age (which is irrelevant) he is head and shoulders above most others.  I remember in the 60's when they first discovered the Komono
    dragons!

Well, I reckon that I could wear an anorak and stand in front of a blue screen, with a view of mountains or the arctic projected onto it.

Seriously, the work of the camera crews etc for this programme is seriously impressive. A shame that this old presenter takes the credit away from them.

For me the commentary compliments the fantastic filming and I cannot think of any other presenter who could do the job as good.Cool

Agreed. Of course, it depends what you like but, for me, Attenborough gives these programmes the gravitas and dignity which makes them compulsive viewing.

In much the same way that Chris Packham et al give Autumnwatch the light hearted, dip in from time to time, effect which makes them entertaining.

Both are head and shoulders above so much of the other tripe regularly dished up on our screens ( just take a look at ITV's schedule tonight!) Happy

I thought last night's programme was the best yet in the series.

    Absolutely stunning filming.

Agree Pliers, I found it gripping  at times. I think we tend to take the series for granted in a way, as its expected to enthrall every time. The fact that it does just goes to show how good it is.....Smile
