I don’t know if you have seen the much heralded BBC 2 TV programme about the sport of Sciocchezze.

I watched it the other night. The programme featured the Italian national teams although to be honest the mens team seemed to be rather third division. On the other hand some members of the ladies team showed promise. I was not at all impressed by
the trainers who seemed to have odd expectations of their team and I think may be up for re-selection at the end of the season. It does seem in this sport like some others that the tenure of management and training officials can be precarious due to the vagaries
of the sport and its supporters clubs which have a reputation for vehemence.

The chairman of the club appeared not to understand fully the rules of the game although he did talk enthusiastically about his assets (I do appreciate that Italian sportsmen are always keen to display their assets and have been known to do so on the
field of play).

Credit must be given however to the TV coverage. It was skilful and adept portraying the most accurate and encouraging introduction to this game albeit in a humorous way. Indeed perhaps excessively humorous and this treatment will not have suited everybody
and indeed may have offended some.

There may be some readers who are familiar with and even play Sciocchezze in the UK. I have not come across the game on my travels nor have I seen any game like either in Europe or in the UK. and if anyone has perhaps they can point me to a stadium
or pitch where I can watch it. I am an enthusiastic camper-vanner so I would be able to travel a fair distance in order to enjoy or perhaps even participate in  Sciocchezze. I would be grateful for any replies.
