thought this looked quite promising, provided that it doesnt start to tie itself in knots, which is what spoils a lot of 'thrillers' these days.....

Not caught up with it yet, but the cast list alone makes it certainly worth a look!

It's some years since I read John Le Carre's book, but if the production remains true to the original it'll be worth persevering with it. A strong cast and the first episode was riveting, so fingers crossed!

Happy. Use left and right arrows to navigate.

Yes, we caught up with the first episode last night, and found it very enjoyable, rattled along, excellent acting, and not so complicated that you gave up on it. Looking forward to next week's episode. Thanks for the reminder about this BB.

Second episode kept up to the high standard of the first. Think this'll be worth sticking with!

....yes, this seems to be a modern trend....show you what happens then try to explain why....Undecided

you cant imagine anyone wriing a novel with the time slots jumbled up.....however, try Girl on a Train for this sort of jumbled mess.....

still, NM ripped along at a great pace, i think its one of the best around..

Just watched the second episode on video, and was surprised to see the filming set around Hartland. Interesting continuity, one moment he's riding his bike down the hill to Hartland Quay, the next he's arriving at the cottage (often used in period dramas)
down the track from Hartland Abbey.

Then he's having a shower under the waterfall at Spekes.

And finally, and most surprising, he goes into O'Donnells shop, which is right next door to the house ( 40 Fore Street ) where I lived as a child. O'Donnells used to be a famous local ice cream maker, had a stall over at Clovelly as well as in their shop.

    Small world and all that.

Very good, reminded me of a '007' type of scenario in the second episode with helicopter, speed boats, exotic island paradise and guys with shooters. I think I may be hooked.

I was right then. I haven't been that way for many years but I thought I recognised the geologic ridges.

I agree that it is a good series so far. Another on that has me gripped is "Occupied" on Sky Arts. An all too plausible and scary scenario.

Another excellent instalment last night. Whether they can maintain the suspense for another 3 episodes remains to be seen. But I'm really enjoying it so far!

I am having difficulty keeping up with the plot but Mr H (who is a Le Carre fan) is really enjoying it.

Just got up to date with all episodes so far, and have to say, for me this has been the best bit of TV for ages. It is beautifully photographed, and I think the opening credits are wonderful. Beautiful locations as well. Getting more intriguing with each
    episode!

The morphing of the credits is very clever.

Very much in the James Bond style of titles.

Yes, it's certainly keeping up the pace and sixpence. An example of just how good theBBC can be when it puts its mind to it.

BTW, talking of James Bond, I read somewhere the other day that Tom Hiddlestone's name has been added to the list of possible successors to Daniel Craig; he does seem to be "shaping up" nicely for the role ( or so Mrs M tells me!)

Gripping, in more ways then one.   Apart from Tom Hiddlebottom, oh sorry I mean Hiddleston (blame that slip on Sunday night), Tom Hollander is brilliant as Corkey and Olivia Coleman gives another great performance.  And who would have thought that Hugh Laurie
could deliver a very believable menacing villian.  Great sunday night viewing.

Happy Valley must now rate as the worst production for sound and dialogue quality. A series I wanted to enjoy but with slight hearing loss meant I may have heard about 10% of dialogue.

    What are other members thoughts?

We are away until 1st April, and no TV in the van as when we are away our time is spent enjoying the outdoors and lots of reading in the evenings listening to Radio 4.  Will have to catch up with The Night Manager on iplayer when we get back, so please,
    pretty please,  no spoilers, lol.
