Rob meets his end, sooner or later?

    I used to be an avid Archers fan from the early 70s until Shula married Alistair (I think in 1999 but not sure). Couldn't stand the man - so boring. Doctor Lock was a much more interwesting characeter and she turned him down. Boo hoo. Anyway since then I have dabbled. I listened for a bit when Nigel died but then couldn't stand it when Elizabeth blamed David. I never did know the outcome of that. I assume they made up.

    Lately because a change of work MO means I am driving often around 7pm I started to listen in again only once or twice a week. In so doing came across this awful Rob. Trouble is I don't know any history Do we, the listener know what he is up to? Has he already done something awful that I missed? Are we to suppose that he is poisoning Helen? In short is there more to this than a recent listener (about the last couple of months) should know about Rob (I know about the paternity thing). I can't believe Helen can be so weak, and I'm getting pretty tired of the story quite frankly, but I gather the editors have had a lot of expert advice from those that know about this kind of controlling.

    Listened from the 50's to end of 80's when storylines moved further and further away from farming

    I sometimes listen to the Omnibus edition but the Rob story line and squeaky little Henry are driving me mad...maybe if the editor is moving back to East Enders they can have some sheep rustling stories?Wink

    I don't like Rob's character - and I suspect that his mother is similarly two-faced.  The character, Helen' has a complex emtional history, and this story line is supposed to represent emotional abuse (ie control of everything from what she wears, her friends,
    and even her family, etc).  I'm not surprised that the Helen character has 'submitted' because she did have a previous history of anorexia and also her first husband committed suicide.

    However, I think the latest introduction of Rob's mother (with the telling last line in today's omnibus episode where she reports Kirsty's visit to Helen) is a bit over the top.  Even an emotional blackmailer wouldn't be able to get his mother to collude,
    surely????

    About Helen: But in other ways she was very strong; as Pat mentioned during an episode last week - she knows her own mind and she was determined to have Henry. Kirsty hinted at the same during her meeting with her this week. 

    I did know what the story line was supposed to be protraying. I also mentioned the fact that the editors have conselled a lot of expert help. I know that because I have read about it. They are taking it very seriously and I am well aware of the scenario being covered here. It was also briefly discussed when Patrica Greene was on Desert Island Discs.  

    But I still find it frustrating that she does not at least try to protest more - even a little verbal complaint now and then would make it a bit more believeable.

    I am glad you don't like the Rob character. What is there to like?
