Mr Selfridge
i have really enjoyed all the Mr Selfridge series, and quite enjoying the start of the present series. Can't say I like the inclusion of the Dolly Sisters though , think they bring the tone of the series down. Also noted the new department is discribed as
the Technology dept , where electrical items are stored. Surely this word was not used in the early 1900s. Anyone else watch ?

I think that the series is based on fact and The Dolly Sisters were instrumental in bringing down Harry Selfridge when he became obsessed with them in real life. I, too, think that the word 'Technology' is a relatively recent word but who knows? The series for me, has lost something, I have 'gone off it' slightly, to be honest!

We also enjoyed the earlier series. This final series seems to be not as good to us although we will watch to the end, not so many historical facts in this series so far except the mention john Lewis dying.

I've not watched the current series. I enjoyed the first series when it was about the shop but I think you can have too much of a good thing!!

Like a lot of TV series, once a winning formula is found, it is milked for all it is worth instead of quitting while on the up. A lot of programmes have gone one more series than they should have. Downton seemed to have just about managed to stop before it started going downhill.
The Apprentice has worn out its welcome IMHO.

The sad truth is that the final series was always going to be ultimately depressing.
In real life, having floated the company, then wasted the resulting cash on gambling, and high living, the share holders eventually pushed HGS out, and he ended his days as a penniless pauper, standing outside his famous store.
The Dolly Sisters did exist, although they had dark hair.
'Shopping, Seduction and Mr Selfridge', by Lindy Woodhead is a useful read. Just bought her book about Elizabeth Arden and Gloria Vanderbilt.

Now he's lost all his money, flat broke. But can't help feeling sorry for the guy. Even though he gambled most of it away.
