Canine Seasonal Illness

I'm looking for a site over New Year and most club sites are full.

 Went to Sandringham a couple of years ago but am really concerned about SCI as my springer is now 8 1/2.

Anyone any experience good or bad with SCI at Sandringham

    We've been to Sandringham quite a few times in autumn and winter with our three Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and we have had no problems. We stick to the established paths and do not let the dogs off the lead. The site is our favourite in the east of England,
    great location and near good beaches.

    Isn't Autumn the dodgy time for CSI ?  I hope no one has bad experience at that time of year.  You could try the animal health trust website for info. They have been studying it.

    Sandringham, along with Thetford and Clumber are known "hotspots" for SCI. Well documented on websites. Personally, not somehere we would risk our dogs, given that there are thousands of other risk free places to stay and visit. Lovely outside of risky months,
    but October through to after Christmas is a no go for us.

    Th were are quite a lot of areas that SCI  is known to be,  but it it like any "problem" it is down to perseption and vigilance on the part of the dog owners ,and "hot spots" are well documented as the area is not necessarily near a club site

    How can you be vigilant about something when the exact cause, and randomness of which dogs are affected, remains unknown? For us, our dogs are too precious to be put at any kind of risk. And yes, sadly I do know of someone who had a very sick dog, Clumber
    area in this case. Up to the OP to make a decision, lots of advice on websites.

    As you say websites give lots of advise but after checking them and not panicking ,JUST BE ViGILANT as would any one,when looking at figures how many  cases have there been? Out of the thousands of dogs that have been to these areas, and it is also suspected that the dogs  who were most badly affected were not up to date with their annual medications, Tic problems are much more prevelant with the chance of Lymms disease this year

    I live equidistant between Sandringham and Thetford Forest and am aware of anecdotal evidence of dogs becoming sick after visiting Sandringham, but not heard anything about Thetford. The AHT stopped research into Canine Seasonal Disorder in 2013 due to lack of funding, so no data to go by. We take our dogs to our local Forestry Comission area on a regular basis and have never had a problem, and have booked a weekend at the Thetford Forest site in a couple of weeks. Our dogs are treated with Nexgard, as they are working dogs and always amongst our sheep, and kept up-to-date with boosters. I'd like to think their immune systems are pretty strong as they're always in the dykes and scrub!
