Saying goodbye to your best friend
Had a very sad morning today , said goodbye to our cross terrier Fred , he was nearly 16 years old , arranged a visit this morning for our Vet to do what we always said we would do when the time was right .
He was deaf , his eyesight was poor and had medication for digestion problems .
He had his last caravan holiday last week in East Sussex .
Fred had been our caravaning , camping , canoeing , fishing mate , we will miss him greatly .

Been there lots of times Wye, and it is always heartbreaking. I am sure Fred no doubt had a life filled with love and fun and games, so treasure your memories!

Such
a sad sad day for you wye keep busy or sit alone with your memories and let the tears fall0 -
We are sometimes much kinder to animals than we are allowed to be to relatives.

Such a sad day Wye, my thoughts are with you, the pai gets less and the memories stronger and it sounds like you have many good memories to remember. Good advice above and having been in the same position just over a year ago know that it does get better,
remember the good times.0 -
I'm sorry that you've had to say goodbye to your loyal friend. I've been there and it's a very difficult time.
It'll take time but you'll be able to look back and remember all of the good times.

Such sad news Wye our thoughts are with you. Our dog is only 2 and has just been diagnosed with Lymphoma. We are devastated so know exactly how you feel.

Very sad news you will always remember the good and bad times that you had with Fred. Over the last fifty years we have had dogs when that day comes it is the hardest thing you have to do but you now it is the right decision they cannot tell you how they
feel. After the last friend I had to say goodbye to I said we would not go through that again. As long as you have memories you will never forget.0 -
When we all read sorrowful posts like yours wye we share your sorrow. It's not just sympathy it's empathy, we can feel the raw grief, the constant welling up of sorrow. Some find it hard to believe that Humans can literally love another species. We can &
we do. That is why we'll all be reading your sad news & harking back to our own similar losses, that doesn't take away any of your pain but it does let you know you are not suffering alone.0 -
I’m very sorry to hear of your loss wye. We had to make the same decision in May last year and know how bad you must be feeling right now. I hope that sharing your grief with other members on here will help to ease the pain and that you remember all the
good times you had with Fred.0 -
Wye, you really did do the right thing, you were unselfish. The selfish thing would be to allow the pain to continue to put off your pain, we all know that is not a Dog lovers actions. You acted out of love & caring, never lose sight of that fact.

Well a new day very quiet in the house , nobody whining for the bacon being cooked .
Fill more comfortable today that we did the right thing .
Thanks again campers for your kind words .
Sixteen for any dog is a grand old age, some of it will have been healthy genes, but a lot of it will be the care, training and love that you invested in Fred. It takes a brave owner to do what we all have to do, but we do it out of love and kindness, and
I for one think they know this. Good to have a nice vet as well, not that I have ever come across one that wasn't nice!0 -
My old friend Jack is watching us from the hill. I guess I'm lucky to have that. I think of him every day, and I see where he rests. I also see his impish looks and ways in my new best friends. Life goes on, and that is the way Jack lived. So must I.
Be happy and glad to have known them, than to be sad that they have gone.

So sorry to hear this. Been there too often over the years. I still see our old pony in the mist some mornings, they stay in your heart forever.

Hi Wye,
Part of you has gone forever but Fred is still there Somewhere. Everyone was so kind on here when we lost Drumstick, and I am so pleased to see that that understanding is still here for you. Horrid horrid thing; losing your pal. I still miss all of my pets
(years have passed; many dogs in the mix) but remembering them and their quirky personalities makes me smile.i suspect, if you could bring Fred back you would do anything but alas you can't. Just try to remember him as a vibrant little character that you had the luck to know.
I do hope you get over your loss soon xxx

Wye,
I really feel for you. its almost 10 years since I took my lovely Golden Retreiver "Harvey" to the vet for the last time. The worst thing is that I'm sure that he knew what I was doing.
As I said its now almost 10 years, but theres still hardly a day that I don't think of the stupid mutt!
I would love another companion like that but the DCOS won't agree. She says that at my age I'm too old to have another dog. But Harvey & me don't agree.
