Alfie
We are now the proud owners of Alfie, an inquisitive, happy, twelve week old bundle of mischief. He is a labX(57), our vet thinks he has collie and maybe whippet in him as well as Lab. He's been with us for two weeks now and apart from a bout of kennel
cough(frightening) he has now got a clean bill of health and can meet other dogs from this weekend. We haven't had a dog since we had to put our 15yr old lab down many years ago, as we didn't think it fair to have a dog and leave it on its own. We feel sure
that we have made the right choice and I'm even taking him to sit in the M'home every day, he will never be left on his own as we plan to take him everywhere we go, He's already been to Drayton Manor with us and the two joungest grandchildren, (He wasn't allowed
in the park ) Mrs bt says that I'm spoiling him, but you cant spoil a pup with too much love can you..

Delighted for you BT! Sounds a lovely bundle of fun. our dogs picked up kennel cough not long after we got our Lab pup, and we had never had a dog with it before, as you say, rather distressing! But glad he is over it. We take our two Labs everywhere with
us, on a daily basis, and they love travelling. Go to sleep in MH, wake up to a beach, can't beat it. Wishing you lots of healthy happy times!0 -
Thanks tda, we're really looking forward to life with Alfie....

Nice story and good for you Brian. Alfie's going to be one very lucky boy by the sound of things. Caravanning/motorhoming is made so much more rewarding with canine companions; we can't imagine leaving ours behind. Keep us up to date with Alfie's progress
won't you?0 -
Thanks all for your interest.
Husky, Alfie enjoyed his bonio he had it after his brekky. Update so far, he is 95%house trained, just the odd leak every other day which he does on his puppy nappy not on the floor, he comes to his name and sits when asked verbally or with a hand gesture,
he really loves training which I restrict to twice a day for ten mins a time,he also loves pleasing you and getting a reward. More updates later. Will post a picture sometime soon...0 -
Congratulations Brian. We have a two year old Labradoodle and she comes everywhere with uS. I think she gets more out of the time in the caravan than both of us!

Thanks JayEss and Kerry for your replies, I've changed my avatar so that you can get a look at him, looks like he's already bagged his seat for when we park up ,
had a job to photo him as he doesn't stay still for very long....0 -
Agree on both points husky, but then I'm biased...

Thank you David, we certainly will enjoy life together, how could anyone not ?...

BT, Alfie looks so proud sitting in the chair. It took us about 15 years to get another dog, and she is now 8 years old, and comes caravanning all the time with us, she just loves it. She also had kennel cough couple of months ago, a terrible thing, like
a child with whooping cough. Good luck with Alfie, he sounds very intelligent!Lynne

BT - you're obviously as besotted with Alfie as I am with our adorable Meg and I wish you many happy years together. We have never had a dog before - previously being cat people, but getting Meg was the best decision of my life. She goes everywhere with
me, is totally loyal and obedient (well, most of the time - she is a Cockapoo when all said and done!) and is so loving and gentle with everyone. She loves caravanning and gets so excited when we are packing the van to go away and doesn't settle until she is finally put in her cage in the back of the car to set off.
Have loads of fun and enjoyment.

Only just spotted this, Brian.......that is a cracking looking dog!
I was interested in your comments about not leaving him behind anywhere....one of the things that stops us from getting one is that I wouldn't want him / her to be left and wondering how easy it is to fit that into our lives (after 38 years of just the two
of us).Anyway, it sounds like you both give each other equal pleasure and I hope that continues for you - I'm sure it will

Thanks for your good wishes Lynne, yes kennel cough is a nasty condition, Alfie sounded like a goose calling, he had me worried till he saw the vet next day. Fully recovered now and able to socialise meeting new dogs

You're right richard, Alfie is our world at the moment. Dogs do make a great difference to your life and give back just as much love that they receive, all they want to do is please you...

What a gorgeous dog!
We keep thinking about getting a puppy, after losing our beautiful spaniel a few years ago. He loved 'vanning as much as we do.
Will work on OH tonight!
Keep trying Pliers, you know it makes sense...

Thanks Ian, yes Alfie is a little cracker, he's never left on his own, we even take it in turns to sit with him in the car while the other does the shopping, lets face it, who would leave a little baby alone? If you do take one on, I hope that you're as
lucky as we are with Alfie...0 -

Thanks H and T, he is a great pup, he has been out once with us last week and we are going away for two nights this friday, breaking him in slowly, he was good last time...

Again, thanks to all for your good wishes, here is an update on Alfie's progress.....
Not cried at night since the first night here,
Has not fouled the house for last two weeks, has an occasional excited leak.
He sits by the door when asked if he wants a "P" ro "Poo" if he needs to go.
He now sits every time on command,
He sits before he is picked up for a cuddle.
He sits and waits before eating his food.
Allows me or Mrs bt to take his food away while he is eating.
He stays in his basket when we eat our meals, no begging or crying.
Now pulls only slightly when out walking.
He is so intelligent that I'm sure he is now thinking of ways to get an extra treat out of me.
Settled very well in car and motorhome.
We can't believe that we have only had him three weeks, he's made such good progress...
