How many nights away in 2016?

Ditto!
The main restriction on caravanning now is the need to look after one or other of our 7 grandchildren. However that might get a tad easier now because our youngest Daughter - now 38, and her husband, have just bought their first caravan. True it is currently at a commercial site in Devon, and they will be using as a static, but I am confident that they will soon want to tour with it. they have three of the seven GC's

When we were at work we used to manage between 40 and 50 nights away but we had a fairly generous holiday entitlement but had to work Saturdays which made weekends more difficult. In the summer we often left work on a Saturday night and went off to a nearby
campsite and came home Monday afternoon. It was just joy to get away and have some peace and quiet and to be able to recharge before going back to work the next day.David

Just done the same as you Ina, surprised to find we've only been away around 100 nights this year.
Think it's because we tend to have fewer, longer breaks since we retired, rather than squeezing in long weekends whenever we could, but it still adds up to being away a quarter of the year

I must admit than on reading these posts it does seem that MH owners get more useage out of their units than us caravanners.
Ive always dismissed the idea of an MH. But the legions of MH owners around now can't all be wrong. At present the DCOS is not keen, but I'm starting to think about hiring one, for say a week just to see how we really adjust to it.

TF,
we changed from a caravan to a MH 16 years ago and love it. But you may have to re-think whether a HS may become a necessity in certain seasons It
certainly is for us and especially this last weekend!0 -

That would certainly be a sensible idea to hire bedore you buy. We changed 3 years ago and wouldn't go back but its not for everyone so try before you buy is good advive. You are right though we go away much more in the MH more than we ever did when we had
the caravan and use the MH all year round wheras when we had the caravan it was not used between Oct and March0 -
after a quiet year (for us) this year, i think we will be champing at the bit for 2017.
we still have two breaks left for this year...Broadway on Thursday fpr the market, and Minehead for New Year...
....but from then, the van is to be serviced on the 9th Jan and then the onto the ferry around 12th for around 12 weeks in Spain....
back end March and then no plans till mid May for an owners club rally (not on a CC site, lol) and then back on the ferry last week of May to tour Italy and Croatia, via Germany.....back probably mid July....so around 140 days in the first half of the year....Thats
more like it....0 -

Not always the case!! We have a caravan and have done 221 nights so far this year, and all being well it will be up to nearly 250 by the year's out, still a few less tha last year and the year before.

How many nights away do people manage when still working? I thought at 31 nights we wasn't doing so bad wih juggling School holidays and working 6 days a week, looks like I must try harder next year!
When I was working we rarely managed much more than that particularly as my OH thought weekends took as much preparation as a week and didnt do many...
Write your comments here...When we were working we would go away every weekend,2 nights, from April to October plus the extra days at Easter and B/hs plus at least 35 days for holidays, so I reckon about 50-60. Did us the world of good.

Write your comments here...Have to agree with Nellie, TF. We will have managed over 130 by the year end and I can't think of any time when having a M/h this year would have increased that total.

There is much to be said for quality over quantity particularly on a day like today when I couldn't think of anything worse than being in the van in a muddy field
No sense of adventure, some people!!

bit drier (less wet) here today, David....not out in the van (till Thursday when forecast is actually 'quite bright') but should venture out somewhere...
fair enough, yesterday was crap, lol.

.........but today would have been pure masochism
We've been at Chapel Lane since Sunday and will go home tomorrow. This was a practical decision more than anything else. I had a 9am appointment at Birmingham Dental Hospital yesterday - much easier to get to from Chapel Lane than have to travel in through
the rush hour across the city and having to brave the M42 and M6 crush. The rest of yesterday was wet, so apart from some shopping and a visit to Beckett's Farm shop for some Snowdonia Cheese, we stayed at the Caravan and I started typing out some of the
Christmas Concert programmes. Today looks more settled so we'll be off out somewhere soon.David

Just got back to site at Cheshire Oaks after a trip down to New Brighton. Interesting to note that on the section of the site we are on motorhomes now outnumber caravans 23 to 5. Definitely seems many more motorhomes out in winter than caravans. It will
be our 120th night before we leave to go home. The site is quite full with no vacancies showing for Friday/Sat night.0 -
We have caravanned later this year than ever before (early November), and we were also really surprised at the split between caravans and MH's at this time of year. The site was the Chichester C&CC site and the split was very marked in favour of MH's I
cannot remember the exact number but it was something like 20MH's to about 6 Caravans!I suspect that the initial early Spring numbers will be similar.
MH's do seem to encourage more all year round useage. However, before anyone jumps down my throat, I do realise that many caravanners also enjoy full all year use too.

Have done most of our jobs at home and if all gets sorted out tomorrow we could well be heading off for our X-Mas trip before the end of this month.
