90 nights so far, about half and half UK/Europe.

You must be getting soft in your old age David Worried

Had we not had a family wedding bang in the middle of September, we might have got a second European trip which would have upped the anti!!! We also went on a cruise in July and we have another 3 days booked in December so all things considered not too bad.

What would be more interesting is what has been your average site fee as well as the number of nights away especially as there are quite a few moans about costs. I have averaged 100 nights per year away ever since I bought a motorhome. This year is no exception and it currently stands at 101nights with a few still to come. 60 percent of these have been on commercial sites with the remainder roughly split fifty fity between the Clubs. My average nightly cost has been £20.24 which also includes quite a few nights in peak season. In 2015 my average nightly cost was £15.35

I've never counted them.  Don't see it as important really.  I don't need to know and I'm sure nobody else does.

Its important to us as we dont want to exceed the limits set by our insurances, Car, House and Red Pennant, and we dont want to waste any of them either by taking shorter trips.

Write your comments here...house and car insurance are normally the number of days at one time I. e. 30/60/90 etc. I take this to mean I can go for 30 days (I wish) come home for a night and go again, rather like the 21 night rule on sites.

Only 31 nights this year as my activities have been curtailed by the dispute with DVLA. Another 45 in cruises and trips to the apartment mind. From the numbers being bandied about, I can only assume that some of you have concreted over your gardens.

or live in flats. I have a low maintenance garden, the worst bit to keep tidy is the lawn.

Just counted in my diary. 179 nights so far this year with another 7 still to come.  The breakdown was CC sites 33. CCC sites 34. Commercial sites 27. CC rally 5. CCC THSs and meets 80. All in UK.  Next year it will be more as I am going abroad from February,
    not sure how long for.

My garden is mainly gravel.  Weedkiller is my friend.

We do much the same except we tend to let the lawns grow (five of them Surprised) and have help to keep everything else ticking over.
Big garden, small home but we just about manage. Longer stays would mean lawn help too.

if we couldn't afford to do it we wouldn't!  Although we keep a daily diary we don't outline costs, mileage etc although I have a rough idea of mpg.

Well! At least I'm not the only one to pay to have the garden tended to. 185 nights in the caravan so far and another 7 without it. I expect to complete another 7 in the caravan this year and 21 without it. Thats a total of 223 by the end of the year away
from home 192 of them outside of the UK. Early retirement is great.

Did write a review of our first year caravanning that gives a fair amount of info on costs, here:

    http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/community/your-stories/KeefySher/Our-First-Year-of-Caravanning/rb/1549749/

Our use is somewhat curtailed currently due to the poor quality of our flagship caravan and not wanting to use it with bits falling apart at each use over the last five trips. Unlike our previous MH that apart from a self inflicted water pump freeze, only
had 1 broken casting in 9 years use and over 60k miles across the UK and Europe and countless nights.

Site fees pale into insignificance if compared to the nearly £30k expenditure that we now feel we can't make full use of.

I do keep a running total of costs and for our 90 nights away , so far this years site fees have totaled £1594.06 which works out as an average of £17.71 a night.

It is not about being able to afford things as to why I keep track of costs. It is about being in posession of facts and not relying on guess work. It is only in the last two years I have decided to monitor costs of each site. Prior to this I only have a total per annum although a good guess at the average nightly cost for early years would be to divide this by 100. It wasn't so long ago my average nightly cost was £10. This year the highest price I paid for a night was £59, the lowest £2!

Up until about 5 or 6 years ago I would return home after 4 to 7 weeks away and cut the grass. 3 or 4 cuts and about 30+ bags to tip. As my arthritis got worse I used to have the chaps that do my neighbours lawn do mine when I was away. About 3 years ago
I realised that just a regular weekly cut meant stopping and resting several times despite my mower being self powered rear roller. I then to have the chaps cut it once a fortnight and about the same time decided that cleaning the windows on the bungalow was
also becoming a pain (literally) and so engaged a window cleaner that also does my neighbours lawn. So whether home or away the lawn is cut fotnightly and the windows cleaned monthly. If we are away the neighbour unlocks the gate and pays them as ours are
done at the same time. I square up when we come home.

Quite a few and I don't count them, haven't a clue on any costs involved and next year I'll pay what's needed to do the same again. Happy

Spreadsheets, summing and the like, how boring for oneself and any unlucky person who has to listen to it. Just my opinion Smile

I only keep a record of sites visited for when I can't remember.

It will be 94 by the end of the year - we are away for a week, this month and then for 10 days over Christmas / New Year.  Mainly on CLs and CS's but with a smattering of Club sites and one C&CC site (never again).

About 35 nights since June for us plus hopefully 2 more to come.  Not sure of costs but would think around average of £18- £20 a night maybe less.

Until I read all of the posts on this thread i thought we were doing fairly well at just under 50 nights. But that is clearly a very small number compared to many others.

Of the 48, only 3 were on CC Club sites due to an eversion to high costs.  !5 on commercial sites and 30 on CLs, all with EHU. Average costs for the CLs was £12 - £15 per night, and many had full toilet & shower facilities.

Normally we do two foreign trips each year plus several short UK breaks - 70-80ish nights (have elderly mother to visit regularly, large garden, OH lay minister in CofE, so not long trips) but this year, so far, none due to health problems but are planning
12 nights away before the end of the year and hope for more next year.

We are up to 52 with another 5 guaranteed before the end of the year...Working between shifts for us both and holiday allowances we are quite pleased, it equates to 8 weeks away :)
