It's not 'proper' it's just the old way.  I can't help being young enough to have only learned the official system of measurement in the UK.

I have not read a CC review in years that gives both measurements in the important areas such as bed length, head height etc.

...The proper way as is still in miles Wink

A lot of brochures give both to make sure us "proper brought up" understandHappy

Ah - that's why I haven't seen them.  I don't look at the brochures for UK vans because for various reasons I'm not in the market for one.

Write your comments here...thats probably why the younger and older generation seldom see eye to eye,  the younger measures his/her height in centimes(or whatever they are called ?) The older in Feet and inches.

Imperial measurement was VERY hard to learn, but once learnt it was burned into your very core. Just wait until we all die off, wont be too long now, another 20 years should do it. Be patient. Until then...when I spend a lot of money buying a bed, whether
for home  or in a Caravan or motorhome, I  Insist that they tell me how long and wide it is in Feet and inches....or I dont buy it.  Its MY money !

It's too firmly ingrained.  We are a backward looking nation and I fully expect the quitters to bring imperial measurements back.

I will have to retire then

We have stupid measurements here, miles on road signs, metric on electrical and imperial on instrument pipe work.  Personally I still convert everything back to imperial. Roll on when we standardise so we can get rid of this mongrel system.

I still think in feet and inches too! I also remember how everything went up in price when we converted pounds, shilling and pence to pounds and new pence!

is your clock metric, too, Malc?

it says you posted 5 hours ago, by my reckoning that would be around 2:30 am!

cant sleep on that awful CC car park at the NEC, or are you already queuing to get in.....Wink

Write your comments here...I had an early night last night which is a rare occasion for me as I'm usually doing the deliveries up until 10 p.m. By one a.m. I had already had 8 hours sleep.

been in the Morelo Empire yet?Happy

Write your comments here...Yes. There was a bit of a queue to get in but very impressive, especially the garage at the rear with its ramp to drive a small car in and out.

We left the show at 3.30 p.m. feeling exhausted but we didn't come away empty -handed. We bought a new caravan vacuum cleaner for £45.

We were very tempted at the new 8 ft. wide models but it would have meant changing to another make. Bailey models are still a maximum of 6ft. 6 ins. wide, so no improvements on our model. We did, however, see caravans with bigger washrooms and showers than ours and also more space to get past the transverse bed but not in the Bailey range.

Write your comments here...Yes, there was one Australian model on display at the show. Unfortunately, it's not available on the UK market and cannot be towed on UK roads.

We went to specifically look at MH's. One very nice Bailey that meet our requirements. Although totally daft design of the cooker, right alongside the leather bench seat, with no splash deflector and electric plate almost touching the upright part of the seat. Bet that changes soon. Also saw some very nice Adria's that would have been totally right, but all seemed to have an expensive lowering bed that we would not require. Which made them about £10,000 more than the Bailey and of course used up payload. Looked at Hymer, but in all the suitable ones you seemed to need mountaineering skills to get in and out of bed. Oh for being able to design your own at a reasonable cost.

I was at the show yesterday as well. Didn't look at motorhomes at all but I did look in a few caravans. The knaus stand was very interesting. Some really innovative designs from toy tuggers through to the new uk spec starclass. The two berth starclass is
worth looking at for its slight variation on the standard design.

The entry level caraOnes are there too.

I'm pretty sure my next van will be a knaus.  There's nothing about any of this year's uk offerings that appealed unfortunately

i guess the drop down bed in the Adria would be optional, as in many euro brands, returning payload and lowering cost.

the £10k difference would not be wholely attibutable to the bed, possibly £2k tops....the rest is for a generally more upmarket product...

The pricing boards did not give the impression the beds were optional. However, will have to look into that as in other respects the vans were very well designed. The beds although still high, were very user friendly for getting in and out. The lowering
bed did look very good if you had kids. Although it was unclear what safety interlocks there were to stop child 1 squashing child 2 against the roof.Well our two would have tried it.

Not sure BB, did not see it, but we are not bothered about a garage, just a reasonable amount of storage, so did not pay particular attention to those with that facility.

I have just been looking through the Bailey book we picked up yesterday and the one we liked is not in it, neither is your big garage version BB. Although the book clearly states 2017 Motorhomes. So it would seem they are producing new models faster than
they can update their booklet. Most confusing when you are trying to check out specs.
