I think it is too late to deal with those ruining a grass pitch with a groundsheet after the fact.

That  inflicts  bare mud on the next occupants.  Should we have a reduction for a pitch in a poor state?

    Rather enforce the groundsheet rule.

Oh, and not seeing the need to regrade and re-seed pitches due to the actions of some people as an extra cost, is almost as ridiculous as not seeing that people who use awning heaters to warm the sky as needing to pay an extra fee.

What on earth  has any discussion/disagreement I might have had with Ian to do with your comment? I take it you can point out an example where I've patronised him rather than simply disagreed with him?

Time for a bit of respect rather than attempting to justify patronising comments I think.

Perhaps the CC should take a "pitch deposit" when you book in, then before you leave the warden  checks the pitch for damage , if the pitch needs repair then you lose your depositWink

I don't have an issue with an addtional charge for an awning.  I've paid extra for my awning on many a commercial site and as long as I'm happy with the overall price I book.

Where I would take issue with an additional awning charge on CC sites is that I cannot book HS in advance.  If we end up on grass because there's nothing else left then we tend not to put the awning up.  Not particularly to protect the grass but because
I'm not going to be using the awning if there's grass under it. If I've paid for my awning and then can't use it because I'm on a substandard pitch (and in my opinion that is ALL grass pitches) then I'm going to want the difference refunded

Write your comments here... We do not pay for awnings. If there were a charge we would save the money.

The grass and hard standings debate does split people. The grass ones are not substandard they are different and many people prefer them, it is just a matter of opinion what you want but awnings can be a problem on grass or at least the groundsheets can
    be.

I've consulted with our cat, who intuitively eats a small amount of grass every morning, as an aid to his irritable bowel syndrome. He feels that grass pitches are far from inferior, but damaged grass is unsatisfactory. We lift part of our breathable groundsheet
daily in support of cats with IBS and healthy grass

I did say that in my opinion all grass pitches are substandard. That remains my view but if it's not acceptable to state that opinion I shall in future refer to them as 'differently standardised' Laughing

i really don't care whether other people prefer them and it doesn't change my opinion that they are substandard and not worth the same pitch fee.

I'm not asking for grass pitches to be removed from sites just that HS should be bookable in the unlikely scenario that the use of awnings become chargeable. That is because I could book an awning pitch, pay in full on arrival then find that only grass is
left in which case the awning will not go up and I would want a refund.

I still prefer grass pitches. I'm on a grass pitch at this very moment! It looks better and it's easier to peg the awning down. I use a breathable groundsheet.

I really think it's a question of individual choice as to whether or not people are willing to pay an additional charge for their awning. You can, after all, choose not to stay on a site that indicates an extra charge for an awning.

Write your comments here...Hi BB, I'm on the Northbrook Farm Caravan Club site in Worthing on pitch 66. It's a seasonal pitch with a purple marker. I'm here until 7th November although I'll be away for two nights to attend the the NEC Caravan show in Birmingham from 10th to 12th October. It'll be nice to see you if you're in the area. Littlehampton Club site is nice though if you prefer a site with facilities.

The CC at the moment don't charge their customers for erecting an awning.  Having given it some thought, could making a charge for an awning, charge per dog, charge per visitor etc. help offset the annual increases in the membership fees.

This would give members freedom of choice whether to avail themselves of the extra chargeable facilities or not.

As a dog owner I would be happy to pay a charge for my dog.

I don't think there should be a charge for Wind out Sunshades as they are an integral part of the van.
