Hygge
It seems to be all the rage at the moment but how do you make your 'van that special cosy place?

Live in it!

It's about a state of mind rather than material things apparently! It's a shared thing!

Also, we Brits are not very good at it let alone understanding it. For the Danes it puts them at the top of the league of countries regarding happiness and well being. We score very badly, I wonder why and what we can do about it.

Here's an article about it, I particularly like the bit about the 'hyggely' camper van!

Hygge for us is cuddling up with the kids after a busy day, under a duvet watching a film with a snack and maybe a small drink or two. It's being warm and comfy with a full belly and the knowledge that your family is safe, happy and healthy. It's not material things but more a feeling, I think.

A walk in the November damp, back to the van for home made soup and bread followed by a steaming hot mug of tea. Snuggling up in the duvet or hugging cushions [I don't do the latter]. Drinking cider with friends outside on a warm summer evening.
If you have the right work life balance or quality of life, I think you're more or less there. I did buy some Dabish furniture once but it didn't make me feel better.

why does someone always think there has to be a 'name/word' for something.....
'this' (that youre on about) is certainly not quantifiable, so how can anyone say someone is more 'hygge' (or whatever) than someone else....and certainly not one nation over another...
theres plenty of grumpy Danes, no doubt.....

I thought the Danes had the highest suicide rate in Europe?

Are they also members of the Danish Caravan Club?

The suicide rate in Sweden and Denmark is double the rate in the UK.

I think you'll find our word "hug" comes from the Danish hygge. It's from our viking heritage and it's more to do with feeling good having people around you....so a big hug will have to do for us now! At least you know the Vikings could be nice sometimes.

As the Rodgers & Hammerstein song goes "There ain't nothing like a Dane"

Many of us on the north eastern coast have Danish origins in our genes. Just look at our place names and surnames too! May be that's why we are such a friendly, happy bunch! Not the only area of Britain mind, they seem to have 'got' all over many parts of good old Blighty! Not so much down south mind!
