We are taking delivery of our new motorhome (Hymer MLi580) in the next couple of weeks, so need to arrange both motorhome insurance and breakdown cover. We have seen a few online and with apparantly good reviews, although the best form of advise is recommendation
from the horses mouth. Any help please as to your own experiences and preferred choice would be very welcomed.

Thank you John

I would favour Mayday through the CC. Mainly because it is specifically designed for MH's and caravaners and the level of cover is very comprehensive and very easy to see in the T&C's . The trouble with some of the others is often establishing what exact
    level of cover you have.

I agree with Steve. Either Mayday (Green Flag) through CC - there's a link on the website - or RAC Arrival through the C&CC. Both provide specialised breakdown/recovery cover for cvans and MHs with no length or weight limits.

As for insurance, ring around and get some quotes, try your current insurer and check out CC's insurance. Our previous motor insurer didn't want to know when we swapped to a MH so we moved to NFU who were roughly the same price as CC with the added convenience of a local office.

We found the club very efficient in insuring our new motorhome.  With regard to breakdown cover, what chassis is your Hymer on?  If Fiat, you get at least two years free roadside and recovery from manufacturer and it includes Europe.

When we got our M/H the CC  quote was ridiculous so we looked around. Comfort is recommended by some we have SAGA insurance at the moment which we are happy with. Some companies don't let you carry over your NCB from your car to a M/H but some do. Breakdown
cover all depends on where you are going to be holidaying for the next year, if a lot of it is abroad then look for a policy that will give you 12mths cover, if its just UK then you shouldn't need breakdown cover for the 1st year as you should be covered by
the base vehicle.  Red Pennant cover for abraod is good but you are limited to a set number of days which is why I said look around for a 12mth policy, we currently have Green Flag euro +

We used CC for car when towing but likeTammygirl found them too expensive for M'home ins. Bear in mind all are agents selling cover provided by insurance companies. Remember to tell them your estimated mileage UK & elsewhere & ensure they cover your length
& weight in case of breakdown.  We still prefer contact by phone & letter where necessary whereas many are OK with email contact.  We use Safeguard (Swinton subsiduary) as we got a good deal incl AA cover UK & Europe at the time & was very competative on price.
    Good luck in your search.

I do not think you will get double recovery though and if you leave anything on the pitch when out for the day will they take you back to collect it.
