Cool my camper
we are off to france for the first time with out 2 young boys in the coachman amara. I was looking to buy a cool my camper aircon unit but they are out of stock. Does someone have one they want to sell me or any other aircon until that would fit. I think
it will be so hot for the kids to sleep.
any advice please. This is my first time this chat forum, only been caravanning for 5 months so all new to me.

There are lots of things you can do to keep a caravan cool without aircon. Open the windows but keep the blinds down on the sun side. Buy as large an electric fan that you can accommodate. If you have blown air heating that allows you to use a cold setting
put that on. If you have one of those electric extractors in roof use that such war air out. We have been in hot weather for years and have never had aitcon. Sod'd law will be if you buy an aircon unit the weather will change!!!David

Agree with David, we caravaned on the continent for years with our 2 boys in high summer. Try and site the van under trees to give you shade, most sites in France will have trees. Open all sky lights and windows but keep the net blinds down and I would close the curtains on the sun side, this way you will still get air flow but not heat. Use fans, even a small fan will give airflow making it feel cooler. When we used to go to Spain with our boys they just used a sheet over them at night, when we go away now if its really hot we take the duvet out of its cover and just use the cover, temps do drop at night especially if you are on the coast. Make sure you do take something for the mosquitos though, they can be a bit of a pest in some places and can make life uncomfortable if you are the one who gets bitten. Have a wonderful time I'm sure the kids will love it.

Don't want to scare the op (or anyone else) but take this advice seriously especially if you are going down the South, Med or Rhone Valley during the mossie season.
There are some new mossies about that arrived about ten years ago and have multiplied. They can cause real problems and it's important you don't get bitten at all. These "new mossies " will bite in the day time and are easliy identified by white bands on their legs.

Interesting topic this. One thing I've noticed is that our new wood-free construction Swift seems to be an awful lot warmer than caravans of the past including our 2015 Lunar and 2007 Bailey both of which were Grade 3 insulated.
Don't know if it's our imagination but even with windows and roof lights open we are easily at 24-30 degrees.

I have noticed mossies are less of a problem than they were 10 to 15 years ago but I would still take notice of the advice.
In 2014 I noticed this but put it down to a cooler summer but this year was hot and there still seem a lack of the little blighters. I find the elctronic vape mats a good deterent in the van and citronella candles when sitting out in the evening.
I found gnats (at least that is what I think they were) were more of a problem this year.
I have never found the need for airconditioning except when driving.
