"there are legitimate organisations which offer locations for overnighting; not all these locations have service facilities. "

Might be better to campaign with those organisations to provide the facilities that are lacking then?

As far as I am concerned as a member I have no interest in providing facilities for those that wild camp. I suspect that the cost of provision would not be recouped to advantage those that use CLs or Club sites.

    + 1

Not every motorhomer who might make use of a service facility is necessarily, by definition, a "wild camper". There are legitimate organisations which offer locations for overnighting; not all these locations have service facilities.  Caravanners are possibly
    unaware of these opportunities.

If facilities are not provided then go where they are.

I was just trying to giving some clarification and suggest that motorhomers who camp off site are not, per se, necessarily, "wild campers". No call for such an aggressive response.

Not aggresive. Just my view. If somebody wishes to stay where the facilities do not match there need then not my problem or the CC's IMO

Erm, the OP asked us to 'imagine a scenario....' presumably as he/she felt we needed some alternative entertainment to the professional Olympics, but (although I haven't read every post) after 39 pages I can't see any comment from someone who has had this services access 'problem'.

Imagine a scenario where happy and relaxed CC members ...........

"...its time the club realised that half its membership falls into this category and stop thinking that its sites must remain a one size fits all...."

I think "half" the membership is probably overstating it, but even within that portion of the membership I'm guessing that most are content with using sites, whether CC or other. The number requiring the services you, personally, require appears rather
small. I don't think it warrants a huge amount of new investment from the club for what would be a fairly small return. (But obviously that's just a personal point of view! Wink)

.And that's on top of the large amount of investment the cc are already being expected to for no real return because of the poor design of UK and European waste outlets on m/vans that the USA built overcame years ago
    Wink

I wish I had not posted that information now. No wish to argue. I was just trying to make the point that not all motorhomers who may require facilities (and might expect a club to which they belong to provide them) are, by definition, "wild campers".

    That is all.

Point taken and I wasn't trying to be awkward. I don't know which are the organisations you were referring to. I just thought it curious that one would, presumably, pay to stop at a venue without the facilities required, then expect the CC to provide them
without paying to stay on site. Happy

We use CLs, sometimes Club sites and we also wild camp, so what?  The Caravan Club offer us membership, I really cannot see what's wrong with us asking for the facilities that suit us.  It's not very nice, frankly, for a caravan owner to more or less tell
us to get lost, or words to that effect.   That sort of attitude isn't common thankfully, and most other campers you meet are friendly and pleasant, even those who have caravans. Cool

M, i dont 'require this service'....I've not said that i do (certainly not in the UK).

...however, i do feel its a service that should be provided for those members that require it...at a reasonable fee, of necessary.

its about service to members (customers) not profit....(But obviously that's just a personal point of view!Wink)

Get the m/van builders to talk to the market leaders of waste outlets the US builders,   which would then save many organisations having to spend thousand of pounds to cater for poor design of waste outlets on m/vans

......so a club providing  a water and dump facility need not necessarily be condoning, or encouraging, wild camping.

......any more than providing dog walks is encouraging dog ownership.

(Ooops, the 'd' word...........naughty, naughty me!).

What's wrong with a bit of wild camping anyway?  Is it just envy from the caravanners because they have to pay for every night?

Nothing at all wrong with (legal) wild camping Q4!

Although I have to smile when I see the expression used in the context of £40000+ MHs with central heating, H&C running water, loo, shower, TV, comfy double bed, microwave and oven.

With reference to MHDP, a large number of the Club's Sites are elderly, been in situ for decades, long before MH's ( as opposed to small campervans) became so popular, so they can be forgiven for being a pain to a certain extent. However, the Club must stand
fairly and squarely to blame for not making things better at new Club Sites, such as Barnard Castle. We had one night, and then joined the magic roundabout, out and back in through barriers to empty and refill! What a faff that was! They need to have a much
shorter turnaround period for renewing such points and making them more user friendly.

Well it is compared to those who cant do without at least a 16A electric supply and feel the world is caving in if there's an issue with the site electrics....

Hardly!  Our MH is very comfortable indeed and so handy for a few nights overlooking wonderful views with sheep as your only neighbours.

It's the overlooking views with sheep as neighbours that sums up why I'm not envious. Happy

Great if that's what you like but I'm not a fan of remote wildernesses. Or indeed sheep

Yes, each to their own!  If we all liked peace and quiet and lovely views it wouldn't be quiet and it would be crowded!

Everyone to their own. The wilder it is the better we like it. I shall never forget waking up to a glorious sunrise on the Isle of Islay , with the sea lapping a few yards away and seabirds as the only company. Never saw any point in having a motorhome then
sitting amidst a row of tin and plastic boxes on a site.
