Having had cause to need a medical in order to continue with C1 licence for my 3.8 tonne motorhome I checked out my GP and found he/she was quite pricey. Instead I booked an appointment within a week with Doctors on Wheels who run a mobile service at a reasonable
priceof £51  saving £9 but I understand some people can save much more. Find them at http://www.doctorsonwheels.co.uk/

    I also use my GP for both the medical and eye test and have never had a problem with the DVLA. At least if there are any queries your GP should be able to deal with them quickly and efficiently from you medical history. I wonder if that is the case with Doctor on Wheels?

    To update, and especially in view of the somewhat negative response to my suggestion that money could be saved, I can now report with some pleasure that after having the medical exam provided by doctorsonwheels.com, and saving £10 on my own GP's fees,  I
    now have my full C1 licence restored with no questions asked and when I need another medical in 2019 (at the age of 77) I shall certainly use their service again. The doctor I saw told me that some GPs charge as much as £250 for a service they provide at a
    week's notice or less for just £51. Seems like a no-brainer to me. You pays your money and takes your choice!

    Sams son;

    Many thanks for your tip-off, my GP charged me £170 in order for me to renew my HGV one licence, that was 3 years ago, will be more now?

    I would think it may depend on you health history which one may be better. If you are fit and healthy not visited a doctor for years etc.  then the mobile doctor may well be fine but if you have had some issues or had surgery then maybe your own GP who will
    quickly be able to answer any questions that may be asked by DVLA.
