Maybe just no manners or maybe irritated by the sometimes belittling posts which often follow.  Some people just post once to ask a question, never to be seen again.

The help and advice you get on CT is second to none, so it's always good to give an update or thanks to those who helped , seems the obvious thing to do , but perhaps some members forgot they asked a question .it's a bit annoying when you spend a bit of
time to try and help and you never find out if it was succesful, but thats lifeCool

It's not uncommon.  it's not confined to CT.

However I'll bet some struggle to find the post again.  Not because it's been moved but because it's not immediately apparent where to find your own posts.

If they can't find their posts how are they going to see the responses they receive.

I doubt they do see the responses.  Hence the lack of reply in many cases.

We get a lot of newcomers to forums in general on CT and it isn't really user friendly enough

Edit - although looking at the advance notice of essential maintenance that has just popped up on my screen perhaps that is about to change

I remember seeing somewhere words to the effect that we should all learn to give advice/offer help - and then not pay any attention to the outcome.  While that applies to a certain extent - it doesn't cost much to say thank you and report back does it?

My son recently brassed me off a bit - a birthday contribution to his bank account - I advised him of such on Facebook because he is in US - he read my message but it took him 5 days to thank me!  He should be savvy enough to know FB mark up when you have
read a message and while short of time a big thank you with a hug or something doesn't take long.  However the thank you phone call pretty much made it right!  And the pictures of the Bears in Canada that he had spent some of the money visiting - but a quick
thank you takes a few seconds?

I hope I am not guilty of forgetting the thank yous on CT!  Some may have slipped through the net possibly - but I hope not.

I think some posters ask a question because something has gone wrong almost at that moment and they need a quick answer. You can often tell because they make the same post on several forums at the same time. Once they have resolved thieir issue I expect
they forget altogether about their original post. In the main people that tend to do this are one off posters. I very much doubt that a regular poster would forget to come back and thank people?

One of the biggest shortcomings of this forum is the lack of a decent FAQ that could address the most common enquiries.

A good few say thanks and/or update you but in life you have to expect a few will not do that. Just wallow in the warm glow helping someone gives you and tell St Peter about it if you get to the pearly gates.
