Sat Nav for towing

Whilst our car has built in Sat Nav, it is aimed at routes suitable for a car rather than towing - so I thought I'd search for HGV route planner resources hoping to input our combined car/caravan data. After a quick search found this http://www.freightjourneyplanner.co.uk/, it accepts height, weight, width and lenth data and it can display the widths of the roads it recommends etc.

I can't vouch for its recommendations, we will be trying them over the next two weeks - but it appears useful so I thought I'd share this info.

If you know of routes where the software/SatNavs tend to typically recommend unsuitable routes - it would be useful if you visited this website to test whether it successfully avoids problems you are aware of.

Hope this helps.....

Sorry for the misleading title - the website I noted is of course only accessible when you are online - so it is not really a SatNav App. But we've just used it for all our route planning, printed off the recommended routes and we can force our InCar SatNav
    to use these routes

Hi HillClimb, what car SatNav are you using? I'm interested in doing something similar after leaving it to the car today trying to avoid an accident on the M6.

Sorry HillClimb don't recommend this router. just put in a route from my house to a point in the new forest which is on a bus route. it sent me on a bridle way/forest track even though I put in 4ton and 20ft long

Don't forget you still need to use the CC directions to a site even if you have a Camper Sat Nav - some sites are ok but others are not.
