Waco Freezer whilst travelling

Hi, have a waeco CK40D freezer that runs on mains and 12v. Just planning for big trip, plan to leave it on the mains at home and get to -20 full of food... my question is whilst travelling should I connect to 12v, worried it might hinder rather than help?
Will be @ 24hrs off mains whilst travelling.

    Can't see why it would hinder. Although if down to -20 I would have thought food would have stayed frozen anyway

    It won't 'go into reverse' ....unless you reverse the polarity of the 12v supply.  However as others have said it will just work away drawing  current from your battery to no usefull effect. Yes....pile all your blankets/duvets over it and you will have
    no problem.

    Great thanks, I think I will air on the side of caution and not leave it on 12v although Id hope it wouldn;t have a negative effect..

    Now as to the "why take so much with you" pure inexperience I will admit!!!! Quite a few of us meeting up as well and so a bulk purchase of meat from wholesale did make sense!

    Its normal design practice for devices which are polarity sensitive, to connect a rectifier "bridge" immediately after the power connection. The bridge comprises of four diodes and is normally encapsulated as an integrated circuit. It ensures the same output
    polarity, regardless of input polarity. Hence, due to mass production they are made in millions and cost pennies. It's very unlikely that Waco haven't fitted one.

    Well post trip we've learnt that really, no really, do not bother taking any more food that the first day or so, and use the freezer to keep ice cubes frozen for cold drinks!!!

    The freezer struggled in 40 degree temps no matter what we tried..... and we did lose quite a bit of food....

    Ah well...... :-)
