Best Travel insurance option for travel in Europe
Hi Guys,
My Father and I plan a wee trip to Europe in late September for 2 - 3 weeks. My Dad is 78 and on the whole OK to travel, but has some health issues that we can't just overlook. I’m 50, fit enough, but you never know.
My Father has never been interested in travel and only got his first UK passport last week I’m hoping he enjoys this first trip and he may be interested in spending sometime in Spain over the winter. I think our trips will be a month or less,
but we may look at options for longer trips and multiple trips.
What recommendations can you guys offer?
Is CC insurance good cover?, value for money?
I’m insured with Caravan Guard with my MH, but need to add European cover. I may ask them for travel insurance as well.
Thanks in advance

Many will disagree violently, but as long as we are are still in the EU I am perfectly happy to rely on the reciprocal (EHIC) arrangements for the mainstream EU countries. (I am 67, wife 71, both with pre-existing conditions). To my mind the only thing you are really insuring against is the cost of repatriation. Only you can decide if this is sufficiently important to you to warant the insurance cost.

The EHIC is not a substitute for travel insurance. You get treated the same way as a citizen of that country. If they get free medical treatment then you do too – if they pay, you pay the same rates. So holiday insurance in not just about repatriation. It's
a balance of risks only you can decide on your level of acceptable risk.Have a look at Martin Lewis,

When some years ago we were in Majorca when a uk visitor was taken ill and had just the EHIC, which needed a hospital stay,it turend out that his family were expected to supply every thing except the medical care
Things vary throughout the EHIC area. Given the choice of where to be taken ill I would go for France or Germany over the UK.
..That is also hit and miss in France ,when SIL was ill in Lille she was waiting to be seen on a trolley for 4hrs

Unusual for France but quite common in the UK . Of course we can all find the bad examples.
...That is what grabs the headlines ,when in reallity it is normally completly diferent
