No wonder the Club has an image problem

Well I have to admit to enjoying live music, Rock bands, Pipe Bands, Flute Bands, Drumming bands, Caribbean steel bands.Accordian Bands, Jazz Bands Etc Etc. The only thing that turns me off is a boring Brass Band.
I am not ready to sit, wrapped in a blanket in a deck chair sipping tea and munching rich tea biscuits all day.
Time for the CC to start catering for those not in their dotage as well.

So the Club already have a Brass Band and all they are asking is if more people would like to join? No mention of age or gender just asking for like minded musical members to join in. Perhaps the OP would think it more modern if they wanted to form a Sex
Pistols tribute band. That would bring a different feeling to God Save the Queen

I'm retired and in my 60s. I like rock music,loud guitars, Rolling Stones Led Zeppelin Beatles Quo etc.. So do all of my friends and we would all consider a concert band and tea party as fuddy duddy , something perhaps for our parents, those that are still
alive. Not for me thankyou, but I just wonder how many others feel the same?0 -

As it's now 40 years since the Sex Pistols formed I'm not sure it's any more modern

I would think the CC band could turn their hand towards most types of music but they're mostly brass players so that's what you get. I don't like tribute bands but they seem to be popular with some people too. I'm sure the CC would be happy for willing rock musicians to step forward....waiting for the stampede may take a while.

I doubt many people outside the club are aware of the band so it has no effect on the clubs image. It is not my thing but I see no problem with it for those that like it.
The post seems to be written on the basis that it is not for them so it is bad. From what I have seen most bands have a fair number of younger members so it does appeal to some younger people but given the wide geographical spread of members location must

I understand what the op means , however bands now cater to all different tastes, I've even heard the Royal Marines band play different stuff depending on the audience . I am sure at a national rally there will be different events to suit everyone's enjoyment

I think I understand what he's saying Brass Band's had sometime ago ( many years maybe ) had a reputation for being rather Darby & Joan and some still see the caravan club as such, they just see lots of over 50s with there caravan and think CC member(
for many years that's how it was )The young family's towing a van with kids they assumed they were CCC members , of course we all know thats wrong , so seeing an add like the one mentioned it's a very old fashioned way of looking at the CC but maybe mud sticks
and the club need to find a way of getting themselves out of a rut , which I think they have been doing0 -

As someone famous once said -no such thing as bad music just different tastes.
But given the criticism levelled at the caravanner of the year show I'd suggest that the OP's point of brass bands and tea parties would blend right in with that image.
And before anyone starts I loved the caravanner of the year show - what a hoot - met the winner hell of a nice guy

In my opinion if you asked campers and non caravanners what their image was of the Caravan Club they would probably use the words 'stuffy', 'a club for old fogeys' 'not me' ' probably OK when I'm retired '
Now you may not agree the Club is like that but impressions of other Clubs are probably not true either. If you asked anyone over 50 of their thoughts of a Club 18- 30 holiday they would mention drunkeness/collapsing in the streets/debauchery etc. This is
obviously partly true but I would suggest that quite a number of the older end have a much quieter timeSimilarly if you suggested to CC members that they go to Malia or Faliraki for a holiday they would probably be aghast but we have been to both places and they are very nice.
If the Club are serious in attracting the younger element they need to change the perception and not necessarily the reality. Even to me brass bands and tea parties are from my parents generation!

It might be in the clubs interest, as a commercial organisation, to attract more members, but what is in it for us ?
Unless the income is used to open new sites, more members simply means less room for those already 'in'.

Most businesses would have a 5 or 10 year plan, does the CC have one ???,and where does it see itself in say 10 years time
Reading the various reports in the magazine certainly gives the impression that the club is starting to look to the future and recognises the need to attract new, younger members. Hence the pods and increased tent pitches.
How to do it without alienating the existing membership is where the difficulties lie.
Relatively few numbers out of the total membership attend the national. Why make drastic changes which may put regulars off and still not attract new attendees?

Write your comments here...I presume Natasha you have been to the National and heard the band? It was the first National I've attended this year, it was a big family event appealing across the generations. It's not Glastonbury or any other type of festival it's a large social gathering of folk from all backgrounds who belong to the club for all sorts of reasons.. The work involved in making it enjoyable is very impressive.
Brass Bands, steel bands, symphony orchestras, jazz and rock groups, whatever, I'm all for live music with people that love playing it! I was looking, after I read the comments on here, at a flash mob on youtube with a brass band in Birmingham....all the shoppers were smiling at the music!
Do you think the CC Brass Band should cease playing?

Well, that's an assumption based on what? It's rather a preconceived idea IMHO. We (in our 60's) went to Faliraki for a week earlier this year, with our friends, one of whom is nearly 70 and the other who is over 70. We enjoyed it very much. Our friends
enjoyed it there so much that they went back for another week at the end of June; we were in France for 6 weeks at the time, or we would have gone with them....So you see, not all CC members are old fogies or stuffy, and I for one don't like being described as such, purely due to my age.
