How long do you stay on site before moving on
Obviously you may do both but in general would you consider yourselves a long stayer or short stayer?

Possibly a bit like yourself. We used to hang around a site for quite a while but these days it's more here today and gone tomorrow.
That's due to the change from cvan to MH of course.

Even though we have a caravan we do seem to operate more like a MH - stop for 2 or 3 nights to see all in the local area then move 60 miles or so and repeat

I think you may have considered a MH. It might suit your needs, A.

( this summer, 3 at Embo, 3 at Dunnet Bay, 2 at Altnaharra, 4 at Clachtoll and 3 at Ardmair )

You are probably right . I have just checked, on our current holiday we have been on 10 sites in 25 days. This is easily achieved with an early departure and arrival mid morning at the next site

I can only get away for 4 days at a time ,at the moment mon - thurs and at a push sun - thurs can i ask how far would you go for 3/4 nights? I live nr doncaster and wondered if sidmouth was too far ? Cheers mrs bc:)

We generally stay between 4 and 7 nights before moving on to our next site, so a short stayer. The only time that we've stayed longer than 8 nights is due to poor weather conditions, eg snow or high winds.

We just like to get set up and stay. Unfortunately, as we still work, I wouldn't consider us long stayers as the longest we have stayed to date is one week. We are doing two weeks later in the year. The only reason we are going to two sites in that two weeks is that we are meeting friends at one of them but it wouldn't have been our choice of destination. As we have stressful jobs, our caravanning is mainly to relax - dog walking, board games, books, dvds and restaurants/coffee shops. As we have the dog we cannot really do museums and galleries so we fit these in on our foreign hols. We are not exactly rock and roll.

With a MH it makes sense to arrive later on site having done some sightseeing on the way. This does reduce the choice of available pitches but the site is only a place to park and not the holiday itself. Have a chat with people you know who have MHs and

When we could only go for that length of time the most we would have considered was Cirencester, about 130 miles from us. Sidmouth is closer to 260 miles from Doncaster. much too far for 3/4 nights in my opinion.

bc, personally it would be too far for me but we are in the fortunate position of retirement so we do not need to

The only time we stay longer than three days(2 nights) is when we take the grandchildren away with us.
bc, 260 miles is a long haul, roughly six hrs, seven with breaks, you would lose a day of your break just travelling. have you exhausted all the sites in "Gods county" (Yorkshire), or do you like a change of accent?..

Depends what you're looking for in a break. If you want to spend best part of a day getting there and setting up and the the same in reverse give it a go.
We tend to actually want a few days r&r so can do two week stops if its somewhere we can explore on foot and by public transport. Or we can do a few nights two three or four at a site stopping on route to explore if its convenient. It depends on what were
looking for at the time. We have a motorhome so setting up is not an issue but were happy to drive off site and return if there isn't another site nearby. Sadly this year it will be a maximum if three or four nights close to home as we have a second trip
to visit our daughter in New Zealand in six months , as work and other commitments permit.Enjoy whatever you chose ?

We live close to you, and can only manage regular 4 day breaks at the moment. Sidmouth is a very long way for 4 days, you will spend day 1 and day 4 mainly travelling, especially given traffic conditions nowadays. We occasionally did Cornwall for a long
weekend 20 years ago, but much lighter traffic, and we travelled solo as our van was left in Cornwall. North, using the A1 is generally good, if you check out the roadworks near Catterick on a regular basis. We did do South Wales last November (Swansea), but
that was with a Friday night flyer and late stop in our MH. A long way. North Norfolk is a nice run, providing again you don't get a hold up. On a good run, no hold ups, around 3.5 hours. That is in a MH.0 -

Apart from the time spent traveling, there is also the financial costs. We would have considered £90 on fuel a bit expensive for a four night break.

On our main summer holiday we normally stay on the same site for a fortnight (this year 12 nights) througout the year we try an get a couple of wrrks here and there and also plenty of werkends where wr just stay on a site for 2 mights. For the times when
we can get away for a long weekeng eg 3-4 nights our max limit is normally a 3 hour drive for instance last weekend we had3 nights away so went to Carlisle which for us id a2 1/2 hour drive0 -
We do both. Sometimes tour, especially in MH, sometimes have a month doing a "lazy", just chilling on one site.

Apart from night halts en route we tend to regard a short stay as a week, at the moment have been here 5 weeks and plan a couple of 1 wee stays on our way nort but then we have the tine to do this
AD, have you ever tried the Bassin D'Arcachon area, ideal stop off area and great for cycling.

A few years back, I spent two weeks on the same CL in Cornwall using the caravanners star pattern of seeing the local area. In more recent years we have had three sites in three weeks or so type trips. Hooking up, setting up can get a bit tedious id done
too frequently - the, as I see it, the only downside of a caravan versus a MH.0 -
It all depends on which you find most tedious, moving on or travelling over the same roads each day as you travel farther and farther from base camp
It also depends on how much kit you lug around- our neighbour at present has a fabulous large caravan, full awning with additional canopy, gas barbeque, satellite dish on tripod etc and No it is not MM

Depends if in "holidaying" or "rallying" mode; the latter often being restricted to 5 nights. When holidaying it is leisurely travel there and then live as at home for as long as we can be away from our actual home. In more typical years we "do" France for
6 weeks with two main stays and a handful of over nights or two day stays covering the travelling.0
