    2014  spent 2 weeks in Zatton Holiday park in Croatia, a site of 1500 pitches Had a great time and are returning late may this year We were the only english speaking carvan on site so some benifits

    Apart from losing your van but I suppose there's a "find my van" app.

    There aren't any as far as I am concerned, in fact there are lots of advantges for a motorhome owner. Large sites usually have everything to hand including doctors surgery and organised tours in peak season. El Delfin Verde is popular with CT members and with and excellent supermarket, take aways and restaurants you need never leave the site if you did not want to. Camping Zaton, the holiday park referred to above even has a shopping mall.

    Each to their own, obviously, but "small is good" for us. Love going to Croatia particularly, but couldn't imagine towing all that way to just stay in one place! Happy

    There is for me a happy medium between a site with 1500 pitches and a CL with only 5. Let's split the difference  - somewhere with about  20 I would say. There I am being reasonable for once.

    To me it is the quality of the site and not the size. I am not that worried if there are twenty pitches or two hundred as long as it meets my standards. Not sure I would want a thousand though as at that size it has to be impersonal.

    ' Does size matter'  not really when it comes to camping sites. We have been on some very big sites and some small 5 van sites, we have suffered noise and inconsiderate neighbours on both, at least on a big site you can move pitches to get away from themWink big
    sites are great for longer stays as peedee says they usually have everything on them. I don't mind if its big or small as long as its in the right place fits the bill and its clean and well run, Oh and I have nice neighboursLaughing

    I like to keep things in proportion to my caravan so small sites it is.

    When we were last at our faviourite big site in Croatia, one of the ever-friendly receptionists said to us  "You wouldn't like it here in high-season!" meaning that it would be full of young people having fun!

     It's a very big site but it's well run by the on-site managers and an enthusiastic well-trained staff. ( Croatia has a University dedicated to the Tourist Industry). Pitches can be reserved, but they allow campers to move pitch once or twice as pitches
    nearer the sea become available. So we're happy with this
    'big site'

    I think chasncath's post sum it up well - in low season, with a probably occupancy of only mature couples, even the largest site may be quiet.  However, in peak season with four people and a lot more children the ambience may well be very different.  Also the point about being able to move pitch if you don't like your neighbours is a good one!  We had to move sites to avoid a party of two couples of Leicester football club supporters, who were pitched noisily on the pitches to either side of us!

    We have done small sites, large sites, and in between sites, and provided that others staying there are considerate, responsible, and leave the sanitary facilities clean after using them, we'll enjoy our stay on any of them!

    I  was interested in what particular issues  put people off large sites but so far the only reasons given have been "getting lost" (and I can second that ) and "impersonal " which I don't quite understand.

    I will respond with a slightly less tongue in cheek response.

    For us the reason we only stay on CLs is because we know there will be a maximum of 5 'vans. We have 2 rescue dogs one of which was kept inside for 18 months before being rescued and he gets massively over the top if there is a lot going on (anything new is just soooooo exciting). The other one has some complex behaviours including compulsive tail chasing which gets worse when she is stressed - she doesn't do well with loud noises or too many children. 

    I may have got it completely wrong - they may well be fine on a larger site - but we only have very limited opportunities to get away so haven't taken a chance on larger sites yet.

    If I didn't have the dogs I still don't think I would choose to stay at a very large site as I like peace and quiet and being able to get alway from it all and would imagine a bigger site would be busier (I'm a teacher so we can only go away in school holidays).

    The larger the site the more difficult it becomes to give personal service. Small sites usually mean you are in the hands of a small team who will know you and can be more friendly. Like all operations as they get bigger they lose this.

    You are right Deleted User User, a good site is a good site whatever the size.  As it 'appens we declined Camping Umag a couple of years back.  We claimed it was "too big" at more than 2000 pitches but I think the real reason was the disco music being blared
    out from the central pool area which could be heard all over the park.  We spent some time walking the site before leaving and stopping at Mereda near to Novigrad which we liked a lot.
