A bit of space please

my wife and I are back touring after a long break and are still amazed at the amount of people who have the herd mentality, whether it's the pitch, the loo, the shower, some people can't give anyone a bit of space they must get next to somebody.

we have just returned from Battle where a caravan was on the 4th pitch of a row of 6, all empty, a motorhome turned up and went on pitch 5, they left after 2 nights then a caravan turns up and takes its place,all other pitches empty WHY.

we met some very nice people and had a very sociable few days, and we were not next door to anybody.

Please give people a bit of space.

    Why worry about being next to someone?

    in January we were one of about a dozen vans on the almost 200 pitch Clumber park site and we were all pitched close together over a couple of rows. There's a certain security in thus too

    I would much rather have a space or two between me and others if the site is uncrowded?  Herding is not in my nature!  But it seems to take all sorts!

    One of reasons we aren't keen on Club Sites. A full CL is our idea of overcrowding, so a busy Club Site is hell on earth to us!

    I have never pitched next to someone just because they are there. I choose a pitch that I like based on my preferences and don't really look or care if the adjacent pitch is taken or not. I expect all pitches to be take at some point by someone so it's not
    worth worrying about, There'e still a minimum of 3m between you no matter what.

    We would choose the pitch we liked best.  Factored in to that is that we generally prefer end of rows if we can so that we only have neighbours on one side, and outside row so we dont have anyone behind us.  However we have to go for a longer pitch so that
    limits choice and if you are pitching in the middle of the row then you have to expect that people will be both sides of you - even if those pitches are empty at the moment.  Hopefully everyone on CC sites is considerate so it wouldnt be a major factor in
    our decision.

    Like you bmb, we'd choise an end pitch if one's available, and certainly don't like having a van directly behind us, although we also don't pick pitches at the outer edges of sites, so it does limit our choise somewhat. Hence a good reason for selecting
    CL's mainly.Laughing

    I thought it was a holiday and to enjoy. You're not at home where you have to sod the neighbours, so say hello and enjoy something different Tongue Out

    To think that if it wasn't for the variety of peoples' taste then conversations such as this would not exist. We are all different and have differing needs and perhaps that person who pitches up next to you suffers from agrophobia and needs the moral support
    of someone close by.  I must say, from a personal point of view I enjoy a bit of space, but nonetheless also enjoy a bit of daily chat and banter with a next door resident..

    So you were not parked next door to anyone but felt the need to moan for other people, why not leave others to enjoy their holiday as they see fit.

    I pitch on whatever pitch I choose. Doesn't matter if outside edge inside, near toilets, or next to someone. If its the one I want to be on then that's it, done. You are not that close, unlike in europe where they pitch right up to the edge of the pitch,
    so the only thing between is the hedge, no 3m grass stip there.

    Totally agree!  Our present house has open views of the countryside as did our last one and the one before that.  I just cannot stand the feeling of being 'crowded-in' at home and I certainly don't want that feeling when I am away on holiday.  Might as well
    go and park on Tesco's car park!!

    They will have to be good indeed to hide the ducks queuing by the door when I go for a shower, the birds on the feeder and the squirrel scampering up a tree. I would agree main CC sites are totally different from CL's just as CC sites are totally different from Haven type offerings. However, to compare any too a supermarket carpark is just wrong.

    The phrase, should have gone to Specsavers, comes to mind. We shop in Tesco a lot and apart from the speed people drive round it, I can find no resemblance whatsoever with the majority of club sites.

    You have obviously never entered the Southport site and turned left !

    Sorry Steve, but that really is a non sequitur.  What have ducks, birds and squirrels got to do with what I was talking about - I don't think I gave any indication that I thought none of those were present on CC sites. You might not agree with my comparison - that was my opinion - but that does not give you the right to say that it was wrong.

    You can't have it all ways, if a CC site is like a Tesco car park, it  is not going to have ducks by your door, birds on a feeder or squirrels scampering up trees. Well not at any of the Tesco stores I frequent. So no I don't agree with your comparison and
    yes I have every right to say I think it is wrong. My opinion you understand.

    Our first priority is finding a pitch that we like rather than worry mif there is someone on the next pitch. Having said that we tend not to pitch in large open spaces but like to be reasonably close to others. The minimum spacing on club sites means we
    are always a sensible distance from our neighbours though.

    I read the opening post a number of times

    Maybe it is me but why book into caravan site ? where  you know it is very likely some sociable person, who has no aversion to being close to other fellow tourers ,  especially in the holiday season will park close to other fellow tourers or god forbid
    it seems the next pitch
