How disgusting, shame on caravaners

Had the day watching our new caravan go through the dealer PDI and paint treatment process. Whilst in the workshops one was able to see and hear from the Tecnicians of the discusting state that caravaners leave and pass their trade in vans in. The filth
is totally aparent, vans that have simply not been cleaned inside or out. Filthy windows full of grease and dirt, who on earth would ever buy these abussed vans. As for the indepth filth how do people live like this ?

What is wrong with people, is it that hard to keep clean an investment which generally costs more than £20k. All we can say having seen the filth is shame on you.

I think making a judgement on all caravaners is a little unfair.  People are all different.  I'm sure some caravans are spotlessly clean, some are clean and some maybe not so.  I've got to say, on all the CLs I have been on, I haven't seen a van in the state you describe...thankfully Happy.

I don't think you can tarnish all caravaners with the same brush, you only heard and saw a few vans from hundreds that must pass through, and you don't give any indication of the number you saw, where they all like that? If so I assume the trade in price
will be lower? These caravans probably belonged to people who live like that at home so it's more a lifestyle thing than being a caravaner by itself

It's a little like standing on the side of a quiet road, seeing one red car go past and assuming that all cars are red. However the original post may read, I assume that it was not the intention to imply that all caravanners are sloven?

I have visited a customer at his private estate home. When we enter his caravan we remove our shoes, when we go into his house we put on a boiler suit and wellington boots!!!!!The caravan is fairly old (1994 and owned from new) the house is older but in a
very expensive private estate so probably worth a large fortune! He looks after his caravan better than he looks after his house! There is nowt so strange as folks!!!!!

I would be surprised if it was a huge number as in most cases folk own and have paid for their vans and want to protect their investment. Conversly with homes they are often rented and cars a lot are firms vehicles. Unfortunately not everyone is respectful
of property that is not their own.

The dealer was obviously happy to allow them as 'trade ins' they must have some value regardless of condition. Where there's muck there's brassHappy

Mmmmm ....last time we did a trade in the dealers actually congratulated us on how clean our van was, they couldn't believe we'd had 2 dogs in it. Mind you our investment in a new van was nowhere near £20000. Those rich caravanners must have forgotten to
get the cleaning staff in to sort things out for them. How shameful! Wink

"Indepth filth"???  I can believe there will be some caravans which are traded in dirty, but hardly believe it's on such a scale as described.  Are you sure the technicians weren't winding you up to an extent?

Judging by the state some of the toilets on sites are left in the comments in the original post are not that surprising.

We were also congratulated on the cleanliness of our last caravan when we traded it in - in fact we were told it sold within days.Happy Our
'investment' was also a lot less than £20,000Laughing

I used to keep Chickens in a beat up old C/van. A guy called to buy eggs, he offered me a lot of money for the van, apparently it was an Eccles aristocrat circa 1950. My chooks never got over the loss of their home. Some of them still ignore me to this dayDon't cry

When we took our caravan to the dealers to get a price for it , they were shocked at how clean it was , I can't understand why people don't look after them .

Sold our previous van privately, it had never been so clean before!

Was sparkling for the photographs we put on Preloved, and sold quickly.

At a few dealers we have visited, we were less than impressed at the state of the vans.  Even the new ones were grubby.   It does not make a good impression.

Presumably they clean them before the purchaser takes delivery, but it certainly put us off.

W & J. You have obviously lived a sheltered life. Work in the public sector and you will see how people live, from pristine cleanliness and pride to utter filth. It's the same with honesty and dubious standards as to what honesty is.

Ours is always cleaned out before it is traded in. Not at all sure if the dealer might knock something off if it was as bad as suggested. If they check it before agreeing the value they probably would.

Inside always clean, tidy and virtually unmarked from new 6 years ago...as for the outside can sometimes look a tad uncared for...must stop using farm CLs and their muddy fields and drives.

I must admit that on our storeage there are a few vans that are almost green on the outside and/or dark streaks all down the sides that clearly have not been used in a very long time, some look like they have never been moved in the 10 years plus we have been there. The storeage price is £400 per year and I would think that is more than some of those vans are worth but someone must be paying it.

Strangly enough there are no MH in that state

Corners, i wonder of those MH are just used more?

leaving a caravan in storage for a period long enough to cause green mould over it signifies a fair length of time and cant be good for it for that length of time, i would have thought.....

for those poor caravans, months and months without a change of air cant be doing the inside any good either, can it?

while not (possibly) as high as a MH a caravan is still a significant investement and to leave it unused is a sad thing, perhaps there are owners who have abandoned them and are now owed by the storage firm? just paying good money NOT to use the van seems
    strange.

i know not everyone has as much time as some do to trot off for many weeks (months) at a time, but to leave a caraavan standing for long enough to be covered in mould sort of pulls at the heart strings......a shame....caravan graveyard?
