How do you choose
where to visit.
I used to be tied to booking our trips at quite short notice, so made use of the late availability facility to find sites which naturally limited what was available. I have no such restriction now and can book well in advance. The problem is I get spoilt
for choice. I keep a log of areas already visited as I prefer to go to new areas rather than revisit the same places and there still plenty of places I’ve not been, but like I said I get spoilt for choice.
How do you decide where to visit?

We just decide what we want to go and see, be it a beach area, a lovely moorland area, or something more specific like a castle, big house or cathedral. Where we stay is usually chosen later, depending on if we are staying in one place or touring. If somewhere
is booked up, we choose somewhere else in the area.

I know what you mean, sometimes we can't decide where to go. This year we changed our minds several times before we finally booked a site.
We always like to visit a new area, or one we haven't been to for a long time for our main holiday. One year we will head north, next south, then East or West, not very scientific but it's where we start.

Sometimes depends on time of year for us as well, and what the weather is doing! We tend to book late, if we book at all, so that we can check out weather for our short weekend breaks. Keep threatening to go to Lake District, but as Yorkshire is still like
a big sponge at the moment, suspect Lakes will be very damp! Just got back from a nice four days in Peak District though, and appreciated the short drive home!0 -
We must be quite boring farts as we tend to stick around north yorks, booking 1 of about 6 sites we use. The area is lovely and only an hour or so from our home.

Write your comments here...no you aren't boring! If you have found somewhere you like and love, it's your choice! We used to use the same couple of sites down in Cornwall whenever we went down there, which at one point was around four/ five times a year,
but we never got bored, always something to see and do, and on the whole we were always very lucky with our weather, even in February!0 -
Sometimes we choose an area by seeing a program on TV ,and think is worth a look
OH is hooked on "Shetland" at the moment, my response was unprintable! Told him to check out weather for Lerwick!
I remember going to see Shakespeare In Love at the cinema, the closing shot after the Twelfth Night shipwreck looks like a fabulous tropical island. Holkham Beach, North Norfolk, on a sunny early morning, it looks just as it does in the film!

We choose an area for an extended visit and then work out where to stop en route, and then book up anywhere from 4 to 9 sites and finally leave time at the end of the trip for a couple of stop-offs. We do 5/6 trips a year, each in a different part of the

Besides our long trip across the channel each year, in the UK we always do England, Scotland and Wales annually. Location first then its looking to see whats nearby, but walking trails take an equal priority with places to visit, a cafe is always a bonus.
Scotland is late season because of midges.0 -
For us it depends what sort of break we are wanting is it one to sit on site and relax most of the time or one to go and visit places or maybe a bit of both. We love going to Berwick as there is plenty of things to do close to the site but if we feel like
it and the weather is nice we just stay on site and admire the view. We have a few "favourite" areas that we try to visit every year but we also try and add in some new areas each year just for a bit of variety0 -

We pick a country then select the places of interest, in that country. Then the places of interest on the route there and back.
As MHers we don't spend more than 3 (4?) nights in any one location......mostly 1 or 2 nights.
In May we will spend about 29 days in one particular country with 10 to 14 stops.
I don't know where the initial idea comes from!!!!

In the autumn, winter and spring we use Barleywood in North Norfolk as its close to a lot of avian activity. We go to Gloucestershire about once a year to visit family etc. We try new places to us on our main holiday and just play it by ear for the remainder
which really depends on the amount of time we have available as to how far we go.0 -
We choose an area, usually because of there are things we want to see or do, and then plan a route round available sites.
Some sites we revisit lots - Baltic wharf and Cirencester because of family nearby.

We have favourite CLs, but not so bothered with Club Sites, tend to use these as a Winter base mainly, as then they are good value. Pleasantly surprised by Ferry Meadows in February, so that is our new site ticked off for this year! Fond of racecourse sites

Sat right by the rails at the edge of the site with fellow 'vanners. good view of the races, no crowds, saw Franki Dettori win three races. Had fun 'bets' and was able to nip back
to the van for anything we wanted0 -
TDA, you'll like Warwick. Some of the HS pitches are on Tarmac out by the rails and are a bit car-parky but the rest of the site is OK. It's great for dogs with a huge parkland grass area that the track runs around. Both the site and the parkland are inside
the track. The facilities are getting on a bit and smallish but perfectly formed! Sainsburys is nearby and there's a great park on the banks of the Avon near the Castle.0 -
Thanks for all your replies. Like husky dog I have started to make a note of any interesting place I see on T.V. to get some ideas. I also use the N.T. handbook for a bit of inspiration.
Think i might buy a map and pin as CY suggestion.

I often decide I want to see something special like an ancient site so we find places to stay nearby. One year I wanted to see Cresswell Crags so we stayed at Clumber Park. Last year I wanted to see Jarlshof and Sumburgh Head so that meant Shetland! I can't
use the term "we" because it's me that tends to do the planning but I've got a willing partner in adventure.

Good dog walk behind the site and also along the canal. You can walk directly into the city. We liked the site, even with a race meet being on at the time. Mid week discount in low season would suit!!

Looking at a tour round Scotland this year but I am waiting to find where I want to go.
