For the past six years we have owned a motorhome and thoroughly enjoyed doing so. However, due to a change in circumstances, we now want to change to a touring caravan. My question is that with a motorhome worth circa £ 35k to sell and a caravan worth cirxa
£ 20k to buy, what is the best way to find a deal?

I would prefer to arrange through a dealer

You could try a company that does both to test the water you could try.

Pioneer caravans at Eye just off the A47 near Peterborough, they are Bailey abd Swift dealers but also sell M/vans

It's probably a bit of a treck from Norfolk but could be worthwhile. SalopLeisure just outside Shrewsbury, Shropshire are a fantastic dealership. They have a great selection of caravans and motor homes to choose from and the service is second to none. They
also have five fully serviced pitches onsite that enables you to try your new vehicle out. They also have toilets and showers on site too. restaurant on site too. I can't recommend them highly enough.

It is difficult to be sure what is the best way forward as dealers may want trade ins where they take the part exchange in plus some cash. You can only see what happens once you decide what you want as a caravan and try two or three dealers if possible and
    see what they say.

It might be worthwhile seeing what motorhome dealers will offer you and then see what discount you can get on the caravan and see what looks the best deal.

Not sure about selling privately at that value but it might be worth advertising and see what happens.

I think it is a bit suck it and see as you are looking at an unusual exchange.

We traded in our caravan for a motorhome at Cranham Caravans, on the A13/M25 junction.  They gave me a good deal on the caravan.  They also have a very large selection of caravans and motorhomes.  Might be worth a try.

When we changed from a caravan to a motorhome we traded in our caravan at White Arches Motorhomes and got a pretty good price. However they also have a large caravan dealership so can work hand in hand. To get the best price it would probably be best to look for a dealer that has both motorhome and caravan franchises. It will depend on how quickly you want the swop to go ahead. If you are not in a hurry some motorhome dealers will sell on a commission basis. This might give you a bit more freedom to get a better deal on the caravan. Whether one method is better than the other I can't say. Whilst it might not get the best financial outcome using one dealer for both will be a lot easier.

If you do let someone sell on commission do make sure it is an established and reoutable firm that you can trust. There have been dealers doing this with cars who simply run off with the money or go bust before you get paid.

When I changed from a campervan to a caravan I sold the campervan back to the dealer from whom I bought it. I got a much better price than the trade in price offered by the caravan dealer (White Arches).

The advantage was that the motorhome dealer (Heart of England) knew the campervan and its history as they supplied it when new to its first owner and then sold it used to me 15 months later.

Cobster if you have to sell your MH privately you could try Downtide at Alby just outside Cromer.  I sold my van through them last year for a commission charge of £500 all in.  They sold my van within 1 month and handle all the administration and I didn't
have to deal with any scamster.
