I brought the caravan home yesterday to wash it and to empty it prior to a service next week ready for the first trip of the year. When I was emptying the gas locker I found that a family of mice had set up home in a bucket full of rags I keep in the locker.
They had shredded most of the rags and a sponge to make some bedding but nothing else in the locker had been touched. There were the remains of a dead mouser on the floor of the locker.

It would have been disastrous if they had moved in to the caravan and not just the gas locker.

At the end of our touring season we seem to gather an abundance of bags etc, I dread the thought of it being overun whilst in storage from mice but been OK so far. I suppose the locker is the easiest to access for mice so all that's left in there are some wood blocks over winter.

    Lucky for you indeed.

Traps are available. Apparently they like peanut butter.

Yes. I use traps with peanut butter with great success in the garden shed.

On our first outing I lifted the rear bunks and picked up a carrier bag and was horrified to see that inside were a pile of ripped up carrier bags, on inspection they had degraded into brittle bits of plastic, panic over.

Just thank your lucky stars they did not get inside and ruin the cushions. Not a lot you can do about the little blighters other than remove the cushions and bedding if you have room at home for them.

I did that and the mice invaded home - took in new caravan cushions to preserve and was using old set - new ones were wrecked.

When I took my motorhome for a service, mice had set up nest in the engine air filter!!!

Give the flexible gas pipe a good check.  Mice are prone to chew rubber and plastic - they may have had a nibble.

Thanks Remus, i'll have a look tomorrow. Had the caravan serviced over weekend and no problems reported, but i'll check anyway. It only takes a few swconds and better safe than sorry.
