Bio toilet fluids - your experience

What bio loo treatment do you use?

We made the switch last year after thoroughly flushing both the holding and flushing tanks of our caravan several times to clear out the old “Nasty” stuff and then replaced it with Bio-Blue on our next trip. We have now nearly finished our first bottle and are due for a replacement, but I have to say we are not really happy with the odours. My partner and I were never lovers of the pink and blue mix we used before as the smell irritated her a lot, and I also have issues with strong smells ie fabric conditioners and the like. However, we equally dislike the odour from the loo after using the bio product for a season.

Like most, we only use the onboard facility for one thing, come rain or shine if you need the other its time for a walk to the onsite facility. So before we buy again I thought I’d ask a question here:

In your experience which product works the best and gives an odour free loo, or at least one that smells okay?

This is my first post on the CC forum, what a topic hehe!

Thanks folks

Is the bio stuff thetford green? If so we tried it once and the smell was horrible and we've gone back to 'blue'. However we now buy our local dealer's own brand pink which works just as well and is far cheaper. We have found that the aquachem blue sachets
to be the best, no more measuring out the required dose (and spilling it on yourself or the ground) just drop a sachet into the tank - it can even be done from inside the van.

Hello Glider and welcome to Club Together.  We had a thread running a while ago on the subject of the idea of using wash tabs, as suggested by a member.  It's here if you wish to take a look.

We used to use the pink flush but hated the black streaks so now use the wash tabs in the holding tank (no measuring) but nothing in the flush tank.  I flush with clear water but use a sanitising spray (Tesco antibacterial spray) around the bowl after flushing.

I have used the stuff from Alsi for the last year. Works very well . Getting some more tomorrow as it is out again. Another benefit is the price. Much cheaper than the branded stuff..

I'm not really up on bio tabs etc as use liquid for our washing machine.

Would it work if I just poured a dose of liquid into the holding tank and just had a tiny bit in the flush tank?

if all you do is pee in the toilet 'come rain or shine' Undecided just empty more regularly and use something like Lidl bio washing gel
tabs....cheap, do the job and leave your cassette cleaner than youll believe.....

we ise these and also have a SOG which draws any toilet odour out though a chimney in the roof, toilet is sweet enough on cheap Lidl gel tabs.....

Try them all and choose which is best for you, suck it and see, perhaps not. Worried

We have used both types and frankly have not noticed any difference. I tend to go with the Aldi one on a simple cost basis.

I have always disliked the smell of toilet additives, and some years ago I fitted a S.O.G. unit to our motor-home, its a air extraction system that sucks the air out of the cassette to outside the MH, for me, next to fitting a under chassis gas tank its the best mod I have ever seen.

No smells in the bathroom, and I mean no smells! plus it far more eco friendly that putting poisons into the sewerage system

I don't use the fabric conditioner but I'd think a capful would be about right in a normal sized flush tank.

Thank you all for replying to this post.

We have just started on a container of Elsan Herbal Green, and so far so good.
