Caravan tyres
Do any memebrs check the age of the tryes on a new caravan before they buy. I have just collected my caravan from an ncc aproved service centre and was told that the tyres fitted to my 2014 caravan are 2011 tyres. I think that the caravan manufacturer is
a bit naughty fitting 3 year old tyres to a new caravan.

Never mind 7 years. We've had to replace ours after just 4 after we asked the dealer to give them a check when servicing. They showed me the cracking on the inside when I returned(and yes I did mark them before taking the van in).
Mind you we had put a few miles on them.

Do you know how old the tyres were when you purchased the van

My friend who decided to start caravaning brought a secondhand caravan from a main dealer who apparently carried out a full ncc approved service before collection, after a conversation regarding tyres with me he checked his out of curiosity and found them
to be standard car tyres not rated to the appropriate load index for his caravan. It would seem that approved workshops and dealers are not necessarily any better than a del boys guarantee.0 -

Write your comments here...They were shown as 2011 but we did pick up the van in January 2012.

Hi,
Checked tyres on car and they are 0613 not bad as car was purchased 1113.
New caravan due middle of April. I intend to check tyre age and if not --16 will reject. Do not see why tyres should be more than 3 months old.

I reckon that I was fortunate when I purchased a 2010 caravan from a dealer last spring (2015). I checked the date on the tyres and they are both 28/14. I can only surmise that the dealer fitted these before I got it. The spare, on a steel wheel, is 2009,
but it has never been used.0 -
I suggest that when ordering tyres, ask the fitter to let you know when they arrive and then go and look at them before they are fitted. As MM says, the turn over of caravan tyres is a lot slower than car tyres so they can be in storage for longer. It is
up to the individual as to how old a tyre you are prepared to accept.Early cracking in the walls can be a sign of running under inflated.

caravan manufactures don't use tyres anything like a fast as car manufactures
True but I cannot see them buying three years stock either. I do wonder if they are picking up tyre companies old stock cheaply.

Caravan manufacturers know just how may caravans they will produce in any one year so should purchase the tyres acordingly. They should then check the age of the tyres when they are delivered and if too old reject them. When i buy my next caravan i will
check the tyre age and if to old reject the van0 -

To some dealersa habitation service is just that. Marquis charge more if you want the wheels taking off to check the brakes
Write your comments here...I would have thought that not checking the hubs and brakes unless charging you as an "extra" is unacceptable ....Why don't they just build it into the annual service price and inspect them every year along with all the other items...My
Swift owners handbook lists all the items that a service is said to be a MUST every year and removal of drums and full inspection and adjustment of brakes and linkages is one of the items listed....I had a friend with a non Swift caravan when, on it's first
service, was found to have a fault in the brake mechanism which needed urgent correction so you can never dismiss an annual check of them.0 -
Contacted the dealer as soon as i got home they say they have not done a swap. Asked them to ask coachman what they propose to do about it, as coachman will not talk to the buying public
Your contract of purchase is with the dealer. If they are not willing to change the tyres seek advice with trading standards. I would not be happy to accept tyres that had been stored so long, They may have been unused but they still deterioate.

If it is in the manufacturers service schedule and the dealer does not do it then it seems to me to be misleading the customer and probably illegal. If anyone tries that on you report them to trading standards and see what they say.

As it says i did contact the dealer as soon as i got home, they contacted coachman and are still waiting for a reply. Looks to me like coachman caravans are a bit like Arthur Daly..
