I'm afraid that I'm a bit of a 'fair weather camper' and the weather hasn't been very fair this year.  We usually fly off somewhere in the early & late seasons and use the van during the better part of the year.  Since it's a fairly compact van, we use it
as a large car at other times for shopping, days out etc, so it is used all year round.

We've just booked our first continental trip for mid April.  Not sure where we're going, but we'll know when we get there!

We never really stop we go away all year round. Our first trip out this year was on the 15th January when we headed up to Loch Lomond for a couple of nights since then we have had another 3 trips away in the van. Due to other commitments our next trip out
will be during the first week of April when we are going away for 12 nights so looking forward  to that.

Our 1st trip out will be this Easter, we had postponed starting earlier as we are awaiitng a new Swift caravan.  However it now appears it won't be at the dealer until after Easter and I'm not prepared to hang on any longer.

We are off to a CL site for the 1st time as well and so far this year we have got 8 holidays booked.

We've already been out once in our 'old' van and expect to get out another twice before it goes in May.  Hopefully we'll have the new van for out 7 week trip over in Europe.

We went for a Bailey Unicorn Valencia.  We especially wanted an alutech because we want a Thule Omnistor wind out awning, which we understand will not effect the warranty.  If Bailey can send out (early) advertising literature with a car purched on the roof,
it will take a wind out awning!! Laughing

Looking forward to it now - and reports are good about the Alde heating - although where we're going in the summer, I hope we won't need heating!! Laughing

Many commercial sites open early in the year.NT Ilam 28/2,Morris Leisure 3/3.All offer excellent facilities and prices at those times. Of ur 5 trips this year only 1 on CC sites- just too expensive for mediocre quality.

By this time last year, we had been away three times in that year.  This year has been disastrous because of the weather we have experienced.  Our Christmas / New Year trip was cut short because the site became waterlogged - then had a week at Chatsworth
in January which was OK but, again, weather was deplorable.  Had to cancel a week away a couple of weeks ago because of adverse weather and waterlogged site.  So - looking forward to being away next week and, hopefully, this warm dry (fingers crossed) spell
will last and give the ground chance to recover. Although north and east Yorkshire hasn't suffered as much as further west - it's still been pretty horrendous compared with last year.

Last week, like many others at LLanberis we were drinking teaand sitting outside our vans. There has been some good weather this spring, just need to take advantage of it.

This weekend we went to Malvern Hills for our first outing this year as we need to erect our new Magnum awning on a hard standing to avoid any mud on it.  We were virtually the first people onto the site and had a choice of literally any pitch.

However then disaster.  First the self engaging motor mover would not engage.  After a few repeated attempts it start working okay so eventually we were able to move the caravan.

Then the jockey wheel went pear shape on us as the axle holding it in place cam eout on the opposide to the split pin.  Of course this happens when you are halfway across the site roadway.  Discovered that some how the flanges on the one side where no longer
there.  A screwdriver and a hammer resolved that problem.

The just to add to our woes the ALDE heating would not work.  I tried everything, but nothing seem to help despite resetting it a dozen times. The only thing we could see was that on the standby screen the temeprature was showing as 50C! Luckily the air
con had a heating element was able to take the chill off the air however eventually we decided to go home and fetch a fan heater.

On our return I removed the control panel from its housing and let the fan blow warm air onto it as something at the back of my mind had surfaced from my days as a TV technician.  This got the heating working again, but it still took ages to warm up the
    caravan.

However we had a pleasant stay and the weather was kind to us however we think the CC are getting silly with the prices they are charging in low season so probbaly will nto be using a CC site for awhile unless we really have to like having to catch the Portsmouth
    ferry

Surfer. sorry to hear of your woes.....

could any of this be a result of the 'use it or lose it' law.....

its like the car when you come back from a fortnights holiday abroad....i guarantee someone will say....I hope the car starts...

with many giving their vans their first trip after a lay up, i can see there might be a few more instances of this phenomenon.

im glad we can dry run everything here at home prior to a trip, although its hardly got its breath back before we are using it again....

We are normally out all year round. Padstowe just before Chrismas for a week. Derbyshire in January & February I know its more dificult with a Caravan as lot of sites are closed. We can squeeze in most places for a night. Last weekend was
really expensive we paid a £1 for a night in Matlock Bath on HARD Standing. Had the place all to ourselves. No water or electric though. Pub Stop Saturday night and home Sunday.

Not so, there are plenty of sites CC, commercial & CLs open all year round. All one has to do is be prepared to seach for them. We've never had difficulty in find sufficient sites for a 5 week trip anytime during the year.

I generally lay up Dec - Feb. The days are cold and short and frequently wet. The expense of pitch and fuel seem a bit pointless if only to demonstrate one's level of 'macho'ness.

CY, of course youre right, thats why those with a bit more time in their hands can spend this (in the van) in warmer climes....touring around the uk in crap weather isnt my idea of 'doing the dream' either but, this year, circumstances have kept us in the
uk until parents have safely moved into their new bungalow.....less than a month now.....i hope.....

still, the odd package holiday or cruise will help pass the time....Wink

    Yawn

Now't if that's what you want to do, but the continual harping on that over there is better than here tends to be grating after a while. Everyone to their own thing.

it would be very rude for those who dont have dogs, or dont like walking, or cycling or any other thing to just type'yawn' when another obviously enjoys those things...

shall i punctuate the 'dog' thread with regular and strategic 'sigh/yawn' comments...

No, because it would be rude.....Undecided

when do we start?......we dont stop,

vanning (for us) is an all year round activity, interrupted only by 'proper holidays'Wink

Same with us. Feel the withdrawl symptoms if we don't get out in the van every 3 weeks or so.

Plus 3 greek holidays booked for this summer (we enjoyGreece as well!)
