Motorhome and Car Insurance
When I bought my motorhome I did not realise that I could not add my motorhome to my car policy. My car insurance is due at the end of the month. Are there ANY companies out there that insure both on the same policy?

Admiral do multi-vehicle policies. Whether they would cover such different beasts, I wouldn't know but worth a call I would think.

I would imagine that a motorhome policy is very different from a car policy because of all the habitation equipment? When we changed from a caravan to a motorhome three years ago I was a bit shocked that I would have to start as a new policy holder as we
had never owned a second vehicle. We eventually insured the motorhome through the Club and they allowed a discount equivilent to the no claims bonus. I should say there was very little difference in the price for the motorhome compare to what I used to pay
to insure the caravan, also with the Club. The only problem is that its not protected. When I downsized the car I initially kept my original vehicle insurance but then changed to John Lewis Insurance where I got a particularly good deal.David

NFU will, vbfg. Full NCD is awarded on one vehicle and a discount on the second while it then starts to earn its own NCD. Both now have protected NCD. We found a reluctance on the part of some insurers to cover MHs.

Given the fairly low number of motorhomes compared with cars many insurers do not have sufficient statistics to rate them so avoid them. They are very different and motorhomes get a specialist policy which is why you will find it difficult to get them both
on one policy. I would check with the club to see what they can do and also buy a motorhome magazine and check with the firms advertising in there.Provided you have a clean car driving record I would hope you would get a new owner discount.

When I was working and needed my own car, some companies wanted me to take a new policy, obviously grabbing more money by applying the NCD to the vehicle and not the driver. I asked around and found that plenty of companies would give me the same NCD as
the van, so I bought a policy from one of them. Note that this was some years ago.Now we're retired, I own our motorhome and my wife owns the car. We are named drivers on each other's policies, so that works fine.

I got the best price from the C&CC when I changed to a motorhome. I already had a small car and the towcar insured with full NCD through Saga. When I changed to a M/h the CC was going to charge me extra as I had not had a M/H before. Saga was mega expensive. The C&CC gave me the best deal for linked policies for the small car and M/H. I am on my own so both policies are in my name.

We recently sold our caravan and bought a motorhome, when I filled out the insurance application giving all my details including that I also had a car ( meaning I would only be using m/h for pleasure)I was disappointed to discover the ncd can only be applied
to one vehicle my policy increased by £100!0
