Extended trips and House Insurance

How do those of you who go on extended trips in excess of 30 days and leave the house unoccupied manage to keep your house insurance valid?

We have taken insurance that covers for longer periods. A few conditions, but nothing that is not sensible.

Another alternative is to ask a friend or family member to stay over the odd night.

Odd night is not enough for many insurers these days, most require a 4 or 5 night stay.
