Can anyone that is complaining about having to use your real name succinctly explain to me why you are not keen on the idea.  My real name is Roger Hudd, google me if you wish.

About as succinctly as I can; loss of
    anonymity.

."My real name is Roger Hudd, google me if you wish. "

I thought you were great in that BBC programme about the bin men - "Common as muck" wasn't it! Laughing

Like CT there seems only one login regardless of whether you book a site of want to view the forum. >>>There also seems to be no automatic logout as I have gone straight into the forum for several days without logging in<<<. I created a bookmark when I was signed in which seems to have allowed me back in every time.

Can't do that now David, timed out after 24hrs.....Cool

Its entirely up to individuals to decide whether they want their real names used and to be seen on internet forums. There might be lots of reasons why people prefer not to use their real names. Interesting that those asking that question don't use their
real name on this forum? I have no issue with individual people knowing my real name but I don't want it all over the internet.

The only reason I did not use my real name is that my forum name suits my avatar and there was an option ,I have been posting on C&CC forum ,Same avatar and real name , can't see a problem as people can find out about me through my business and I have nothing
to hide and I'm really boringSad

I don't have anything to hide either Husky but like many others I reserve the right to choose whether I use my real name or not on an open or a members only forum. I've never used my real name even on family history forums which I've been doing for years,Smile

    David,

If you haven't done so already Google your own name.  I think you will be surprised how widely spread it is on the internet.  Incidentally the only reason I don't use my own name is that I have become more widely known as [Deleted User User] and / or DD.

And I have always used peedee and the same avatar. At least it differentiates me from the many other Petes.

    David,

If you haven't done so already Google your own name.  I think you will be surprised how widely spread it is on the internet.

Write your comments here...  That is true. Most people don't realise that if you simply google your own name, (also put in your town or county to save trawling through multiple pages) not only, in most cases, will your home address and telephone number be displayed but details of who lives in the house with you. There is other even more sensitive information available. If you know where to look.

That's why the best security advice is to keep your personal details hidden when on public access websites.

    Surprised

It is amazing how some companies can treat customers.  I have been a long term member of C&CC but my membership is up for renewal 1st Feb 2016.  They recently sent me the new cards but as we did not use them last year and probably won’t this year
I decided not to renew.  I rang them and told them of our decision and was asked to return the cards, which I have done.  However, they have already Deleted User my membership a couple of weeks early and this is now preventing me from accessing their forum.  I
do feel cheated but normally it would not bother me but I have just received a PM from Gillian Gledhill regarding her c6002e Truma heater and I now have no way of replying.  If you think you can help it would be appreciated.

I should have said help by passing a message it would be appreciated.

DD, happy to pass on messages, I have an e-mail address in my profile if that helps or any other method...

Still rather slow over there. Peaked at 6 members online today as far as I can tell. Currently 4.

I guess the reason is that only followers here would know about its existence. Why would a typical C&CC member even log in to the site, let alone venture into 'membership' when they already are one.

No doubt it will burst into life when the next mag comes out.

yes a bit slow ,but it is a slow time of year and maybe the members are not used to a forum , it may take a few of us CT members to get some threads going

Hi BT,  I think it would be good money wasted as we did not use C&CC last year but I will miss the opportunity of helping bring the forum to life.  This year for short breaks we will do more with CSMA C&C section.

Thanks for the offer of help.  HD has left a message on my behalf and I hope to hear from Gillian in due course.

DD, if Gillian doesn't get in touch within a couple of days let me know and I will bump the thread and PM her again

Funnily enough, one of the reasons I ditched my ccc membership was the lack of a forum.  Maybe they listened to my feedback and created one after I left?

Whilst I appreciate that they have not given it much publicity yet the number of daily posts is quite small. It will be interesting to see how it develops when they do a full scale launch.

Haven't seen it being promoted in the recent magazine although the Facebook contributors usually get a mention.

I'm never really sure why forums are a must have for some organisations. In general terms, forums gather a small minority of the client base. Its usually unrepresentative of the wider marketplace, and it places disproportionate demands on management and
IT. My meaning here, is that organisations get run ragged by the loudest and ignore the needs of the many. Facebook is a much more popular interface and well known throughout the civilised world, requiring no recources from IT.
