I have just had a reply from the C&CC regarding my recommendations.  They are open and honest and admit that there are still issues relating to the points I raised. They are working on solutions but it will take some time.

It is nice to receive a prompt reply to emails, something which is sadly lacking on this CC forum, so the C&CC have got some things right.

In the light of their email I see participation in the C&CC forum, for me at least , being restricted to
    "Read Only"

It would be interesting to know what other forums, if any, they have used to form their own opinions on running a forum. I would be amazed if they had not looked at Club Together and their insistance on using real names might be a result of seeing how anonymity has contributed to some of the more unpleasent episodes we have had on this forum. It would almost be impossible for someone who had been banned to rejoin under a different name. Personally I have always liked the idea of people using their real first names on forums as it makes it a bit more personal and perhaps this is something we should consider for the new forum?

I've just been looking at the forum, so far 277 have joined but I wonder if that includes people like me who looked in earlier and instantly became members without agreeing to be!. Is there now a set up where you sign up for it rather than having automatic
inclusion because you are a C & CC member? Is there a time out facility for security?  An opt out for surnames might have been a good idea. I think it's now on the way with it's low key start up but it's very much a club forum, maybe that will be a good thing?

I think that is much too long, I prefer the system on here even if it is a bit annoying to lose a post. Anything which could be involved with financial transactions needs to be extra secure. I did query this with the C & CC who said it was secure but I wasn't confident with their reply.

Some members say they dont want to post on the new C&CC forum because you have to use your real name, yet two CT members have their own website (DK &AD) and talk of their travels and have pictures and info about them selves , am i miising the point somewhere,
but i also respect their view on not wanting to post.....................

    Write your comments here...I agree.

As discussions are; or should be, typically discussing the joys and pain of our hobby / lifestyle, in my humble opinion I thinnk the risks associated with using a real name could be managed.

In short this is a forum discussing different variants of camping.

Subject to not advertising when you will be away from home; as there maybe an opportunity to detect you and or any namesakes you may have through a public register - if you have not opted out, other risks would require additional information, such as DOB for identy theft, etc.

In short, if your discussing camping with your real name the risk is / or could be easily managed - of course many others will have differing views.....:)

I think some have already made the decison to use their names, there are a lot of bloggers out there who reveal a lot about themselves. But not everyone feels ok about it so just a first name option might be more user friendly. I wouldn't want all of my name to be visible but would feel ok about my first name being used. Unfortunately there would still be a few posters who "stirred things up" even using their real names!

edit, it sounds as though the C&CC are going to remove "negative" posts quickly which should help.

I dont quite understand your point  here HD I wouldnt be posting on the CCC forum because I am not a member but on here I go by my  name and my avatar is a recognisable  likeness.

David ,what i am saying is that there are members like yourself that use their name and put quite a bit of info about themselves on their websites but never get scamed or have any problems , so why are some members (not you) saying   it such a big deal for a member of the C&CC to use their real name ??

Well said both AD and husky you both make sense, however we will never convert all to our way of thinking so must respect their views even though some may seem a bit hypocritical to usSealed.......Cool

Have you noticed that amongst all the categories on their forum there isn't even one for off topic subjects or casual caravan and motorhome chat!

    peedee

Just had a reply (CC take note of how quick they reply)and was told they are going to let the forum run for a while and review what sections need reviewing or adding....

It could be you are marked as member once you visit the forum or have made the first post? There is no seperate log in procedure.

I have received another Email from the C&CC this morning with a further explanation. They are open, honest and informative even if the news is not what we want to hear. I like that !!. They reply to emails by return. I am definitely liking what I see.  Their forum management style is great.

They have obviously looked at the CC forum and the mistakes made by the CC and are offering a forum which is entirely different.

It's still a Read Only forum for me for the time being but that will change soon.

Why would you want it to change? You can read/browse anonymously.Only the C&CC will ever know you have visited that is they can be bothered to analyse the stats as to who has bothered to visit the forum page. They may well do this in the early stages but I am not sure what it achieves especially when potentially 250,000 club members might bother to read it once it becomes more widely known it's there.

I wouldn't mind using my first name - but the very fact that people can READ on there without contributing makes me wonder about security.  (and yes I have posted on there - a warning about fire blankets which I thought was important - and that was before
I realised they put the full name).

Like CT there seems only one login regardless of whether you book a site of want to view the forum. There also seems to be no automatic logout as I have gone straight into the forum for several days without logging in. I created a bookmark when I was signed
in which seems to have allowed me back in every time. I am sure there must be more changes to come. Its hardly being well used even by the few that know about it.

...Why did I hope it had changed? Because I think anyone looking at a forum should agree to join not be automatically included. Thankfully my name is not visible now but earlier for a 24 hr slot it was because I forgot to sign out and there is an unusually long time out.

If some of us aren't keen on showing our real names it will probably be for a reason but we don't have to say any more than that.Smile (No big
mystery for me but my name connects up with others, addresses and work colleagues etc.)
