Is one's name considered to be in the public domain?
However, I would not worry; as I posted an intro' message in the welcome section and had 33 views but no "hi and welcome" back - needs some TLC.......

Just posted on the C&CC forum, it's a bit lonely there
Well I guess we can chat together there in 'relative privacy' .....I recognise that dog.

They have moved the link up a level to the front of the Members page. It might now be a little more obvious but they really need to advertise it now to get it rolling. I think many are still going to be put off having to use there membership name.

One often wonders at the amount of info requested on forums and, indeed, other web forms. It should really be the absolute minimum needed to complete whatever the procedure is. Does AN Other DOT Com really need your date of birth, your shoes size and your
hamsters maiden name?I had to lie about the hamster's name as we haven't got one

I posted on there last night, I don't think security is a particular problem. I also booked two site visits without problem, using a debit card. Feel safe enough using the site, as husky says previously, if people want to scam you they will find a way. I
have both this club and the C&CC as protected sites with my online security, Lets face it , I've been using both sites for quite a few years now without problems. I don't intend to be a hermit cyber or otherwise.....0 -
For my phone number I always use the STD code followed by 6 zeros, seems to work
I just put 11 zeros, never failed yet.....

Well Pippa I'm giving it a go. As my contact details are in the book when I steward THSs it won't make much difference to me!
Write your comments here...Does it give your address too Meg? Now I have a neighbour who watches my house I am less concerned than I used to be but where I live it seems a bad idea to let too many people know my movements.

I see that they have moved the forum link to the top line in the members area. Good response, think they will get it right soon. At least they seem to respond quickly to members concerns. ...

I am rather surprised they have not e-mailed all members to inform them the forum is up and running? Perhaps they see an advantage in a slow start? Have to say I much prefer the layout of Club Together although I just wish it had some of the functionality
of the C&CC forum.David

I like the fact you can PM another member, maybe the CC will follow in their update???
Write your comments here...I agree, as PM may help keep discussions on topic....

"Have to say I much prefer the layout of Club Together"
As rogher says David, its what you are used to, I think given time, that the CCC forum will be very good. I've found it quite easy to navigate and post and follow, also the "How to use" information is easy to understand.....

You often take too much for granted. The design of this forum was not at all bad, it just had insufficient maintenance applied to it. You never know, we may all be wishing for it back after the new service has rolled out! but I've just realised we're digressing...

Back on track, found found this welcome posted two days ago.
Welcome to the Club Forum! (And for those of you who found us before Christmas, welcome back!)
This is a Camping and Caravanning Club member-only forum. You may already be aware: to join the forum, members must first register with the Club website, which requires a Club membership number. Once logged in to the Club website, you don’t need
to enter your details again to use the Club Forum. We’ve taken the view that the Club Forum should be a community where people use their authentic identities. Club members may only post and comment here using their real name. That way, when you’re taking part in the Club Forum, you always know who
you're connecting with. Why have we done this? In our campsites and social camping we create places for people to connect with each other, and we want the forum to reflect this open, friendly and personal approach.
Plus, we think it’ll help keep our Club Forum community safer.
Early Forum users please note: we have removed the facility that automatically announces new Club Forum users, and also removed the facility that shows ‘who’s online now’. So, those Club members keen to visit, explore and follow conversation strings
and topics on here, but not keen to contribute under their real name, will be able to do so.Do take a look around the Club Forum, and get involved. We hope you enjoy your time here and find it a friendly, useful and informative place to be.
Best wishes,
Thought it may answer a few questions.....

I have just had an e-mail from the Club (C&CC) saying the same as Brian's post above in terms of actually using the forum. My reply did say that this was the current position so whether that is open to change if sufficient members voice their concerns its
difficult to tell. Looks like a read only forum for me and others that take the same viewThey still consider it a soft launch but will be featuring publicity for the forum at the start of the main of the main camping season via the usual channels.

The CCC line may be a bit too far for some but at least on this forum I dont see that its too much to ask that people fill in the profile details. The most active keyboard warriors almost invariably say nothing about themselves
At least we have the opportunity to add that information unlike currently on the C&CC forum. I do agree that it would be helpful that, at the very least, people put whether they were a caravanner/motorhomer/trailer tenter and an approx geographical local
because how you reply to post is often influenced by some of that information.David

I am a C&CC member but I am unlikely to use the forum. Apart from the issue of not allowing members to use their own user names, I just wouldn't have enough time to participate fully in more than one forum.
I also agree with David K that it is really useful to identify the type of unit and location. It does have a baring on how you reply to a post.

.......I know there are those within the CC who have put forward some valid arguments for this forum to be members only too, but I still think that by making it open it has proved to encourage non-members to join the CC. The current monitoring system is
generally proving to be successful in dealing with some of the problems we have had in the past. Personally I think the C&CC are missing an opportunity here.David

I don't want to appear to be the devils advocate David, but I think that allowing non members to view and post has also steered people away from this club. No proof, just my observations and opinion.........

Have you noticed that amongst all the categories on their forum there isn't even one for off topic subjects or casual caravan and motorhome chat!

Write your comments here...They have probably noticed that those are the categories which attract most of the unpleasant posts on the CC forum and they are learning from the CC mistakes.
