Anybody got any information about what has happened to it? Has it been abandoned or is it coming back anytime soon?

    Why not ask C&CC?

I did when I didn't get any response here. No point in pestering them if someone already knows. I had an almost instant response. Sealed

And that response was?  As it happens I am a C&CC member, but not, so far, a CC member.  I only found out about 'our' new forum from here!  (and did manage to post on it before it was taken down.....personally I am not bothered about the apparent 'anonymity'
    issues).

Vic, since you asked, it might be back tomorrow, if not, definitely by the end of the week.

I think it will be interesting both from the point of view of the user interface and from the content from regular users of the Club. Not being a regular user,I am hoping to learn a lot more about the C&CC

This is the message on their website:-

Unfortunately, the Club Forum is not available at the moment

We are currently undergoing some maintenance work on the Club’s members-only forum. We apologise for any inconvenience.

If you have any queries, please email onlineforum@campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk

When it does come back it will be interesting to see the changed they have made.

Thanks peedee. We wait in anticipation!  My guess is that it will take quite a time for it to gain momentum amongst the general membership, and initially will be dominated by those (C&CC members?) who already post here. It will be interresting to see if
they retain a 'member only' policy on the forum.

I think that is highly likely but hopefully you will not have to use your real name.

Its back but the C&&C would like you to use your real name when posting. However, they have made some concessions. They no longer show who is on line so you can browse annonamously once you have logged in to their web site.

I'm glad to hear they've made this change. I forgot to sign off and my name sat there for 24 hrs!! I wonder if they've introduced a time out facility. I questioned them about this as a security issue.

CCC website is sending me round in circles at the moment.  I log in, go to forum, which tells me I need to log in and takes me back to log in screen.  Log in again and then tells me the page I want not found.  Back to log in page, enter site, this time do
a search for forum, message can't find.  Think I will give up and stick with this one.  Annoying, as I was one of the pilot and I had no trouble accessing then.

Write your comments here...Doesnt sound like good news then. Pity it wasn't tested properly before going back on line.

I'll give it a try in a few minutes and see if I have better luck.

I understand at the moment the forum is limited to members. However, if it is ever opened up, as with CT, I would think displaying you full name when you post could still be a serious security risk.

From the latest introductory note of welcome it looks like that won't happen. The C&CC believe when members have to use their real names they will be better behaved. They are probably right.

I've had a look this evening, I think it will stay members only and the ethos seems ok about real names. It warns members about giving out any further personal information which means on the internet in general too. Depends how you feel about security but at least it can now be read without names appearing.

Better stay here then Husky Wink.  I won't be posting there as I KNOW using my full name will reveal far too many personal details including my
name address and telephone number plus a whole lot more.  Not saying I don't trust C & CC members but still it would seem the height of stupidity.

Looks like I will be a read only member!!! Their system offers no real security. Once you have someones real name it pretty easy to find out a lot more about them especially if they drop hints about their interests and the type of work they do. I do intend
to write to the Club one more time but I somehow doubt they will change their minds which in my view will limit the level of contribution. We will see. Perhaps a better option would be to use your membership number as your forum ID?

I like that idea but somehow I don't see even that meeting their ideas. I have nothing to hide so am not terribly worried, I have a fairly visible presence on the web anyway. Try searching my real name! Laughing

As the ‘Friendly’ club, perhaps they think it more fitting for members to identify themselves.

OK here's where their system falls down... -- Take the case of a couple say Mary and John Smith. They are both full joint members. For years they have logged  into the C&CC site to book, buy services etc under the Mary Smith login.. Mary has no interest in the new forum but John wants to participate.  If he was to post, the Real Name on the post would be Mary Smith.  This is totally wrong and goes against all conventions of communication. In fact it is wrong both morally and otherwise  The C&CC organisation cannot therefore allow John Smith his right, as a member, to post on the forum.

If their forum followed the normal forum rules by allowing forum names, John Smith would not be locked out of the forum.

I don't think posting with your membership number as ID is a good idea and may be a security issue just as it is on here. It might have been better to use a christian name only.

One often wonders at the amount of info requested on forums and, indeed, other web forms. It should really be the absolute minimum needed to complete whatever the procedure is. Does AN Other DOT Com really need your date of birth, your shoes size and your
    hamsters maiden name?
