We have just sold our Motorhome so had to empty everything out, wow!  There is no way we can carry the same amount now that we have changed to a caravan, so we are now really being selective in what we take with us, but saying that we also spend three month
in Spain in the winter so it will mean the car will be loaded up somewhat.

if you caravan, payloads are generally pretty small (200 kg) so all the 'stuff' gets stuffed into the car, hence large estate cars and 4x4s are popular...

MHers with larger payloads (500-1000+ kg) can safely stow all their 'essentials' within one vehicle....

like others, our long trips are pretty long (4 months or so) which will involve a mix of short sightseeing stops but also some 'put your feet up' stays where we will need something to put our feet up onWink

i do review our stuff content from time to time but outdoor chairs, table, grills, windbreak, rotary washing line, electric bikes, chargers, batteries, tools, safety items, hoses, cables, water and electrical connections, refillable gas adaptors etc are
    all pretty much required....

add in clothes, walking boots, coats and the weight can easily mount up.....and then theres wine, wine, oh and wine.....

luckily we have a large garage and a payload to carry it all.....Wink

Out of all the many items we have brought away with us on this 11 week trip, I think the only things we haven't used is the amount of clothes we brought. We did have all 4 seasons clothes but strangely we have only used the cold/wet weather and flipping
hot weather clothes. Kit in the van doesn't change much and stays in for most of the year,  its really just food and clothes that have to be replenished. We did succumb to buying 2 new low level beach chairs, while in CambrilsWink

Trouble is, we use the van year round. I will always need it next time

Are you expecting an outbreak of dysentry then? I suppose the more plates you eat off, the greater the risk. Wink

But  that's  catered  for  by  the  25  toilet  rolls  !!  Surprised

The trouble is I think lots of things will be useful and then never use them.

As someone who have never been a caravanner (and have started with a small mototorhome then a medium sized one and now a campervan) I simply don't understand the amount of  equipment which some people caravanners and m/h ers perceive that they need to enjoy
the countryside. Awnings, (as opposed to a rolller type sunshade) windbreak. Satellite TV dish and stand, barbecue awning heater sunlounger large table etc etc just don't figure in our thinking mainly because we are looking for an experience different from
home and we can't see any benefit in replicating home in  a different place.

I am not saying that the "overloaded" approach is wrong just that I don't understand it.

We carry lots of "stuff" because  we tour for up to 3 months and in that time we often go through the 4 seasons weatherwise

Write your comments here...Living in Scotland I understand the weather point some say that we can have four seasons in a day here. When we head off to sunnier climes in March or April there is always the dilemma about duvet weight. We nearly always go for
the lightest (4.5) and have had a few cold nights on the way to the sun. Good technical clothing takes you a long way though and I reckon a two week supply of clothing is the maximum you need (you can wash it). Some people have also experienced the phenomena
that clothes keep cleaner for longer when you are on holiday Happy
