We are thinking of getting a new unit for the MH. The built in one has issues going wrong and freezing just at the wrong moment and the old TomTom we have seems to direct us down odd roads even when fastest route is chosen, also the maps need updating and
at £60 I am reluctant to buy plus the small screen is a long way away for my eyes...So looking at the TomTom 5200 or 6200, not sure if I want the 5 or 6 inch screen but the way the eyesight is going will probably get the 6" once I pop to Halfords to look. Anyone out there got one of these units?
I would certainly go for the six inch screen especially in a motorhome as you can be a bit further away compared to a car. Whilst I have not fully investigated it seems that some of the newer TomTom's use Google Maps? If that is right do they allow you to
plan a route? I have a Start 60 to which I have added the Camper Maps but the device is just starting to play up so I might be in the market for a new one some time soon. I have not yet established if the newer models actually accept the Camper Maps. They
don't seem to accept SD Cards but have a bigger inbuilt memory. I have found the Camper Maps very reliable in selecting the route with the minimal input from me.David

I'm still trundling around with my old s/h TomTom700 with maps that are at least seven years old. Works sufficiently well for my purposes, or at least it would if I can get my licence back off DVLA. If you don't care where you are, you're not lost.

What are camper maps David???
Looking at the blurb there is an App to download to your tablet/phone so you can plan a route offline then send to the device, I think there is a OC app as well. What I liked was free maps for life, SIM card incldued for trafffic, faster processsor and looks like larger storage and it accepts SD card (up to 32GB I think) and WiFi connection.

I use a TomTom 510(I think that's it). If you use MyTomTom route planning from a computer before you set off you can check the route and alter it to avoid unsuitable roads, and using the CC directions to a club site you can ensure you approach from the recommended
direction. When you have your preferred route you can send it to your TomTom. Real 21st Century stuff, although I must admit I do like maps!0 -

you're right, David, they cant....they require quite a bit of storage....no good for either of my two Tomtoms, which is a shame as i would have gone for this approach.
as it happens, i use 'fastest route' and take a little time to check the planned route (especially the last approach) against googlemaps, add in a sprig of (hopefully) common sense while actually on the road and this seems to work in the vast majority of
cases....just as aside, for my amusement, i rigged up my old tomtom one onto my electric bike...its powered from the USB on the handlebar 'console' (normally used for diagnostics when being serviced) with a short lead.
it can be set to 'cycle routes' (in the same way as some can be switched between car and caravan settings) and this is great for slipping away from the traffic onto the tiniest of side roads...
so, pretty much, exactly the opposite of a 'camper map' function....

I have co pilot downloaded on my iPhone it's fab you just put the size of motorhome or caravan plus car and it then sorts the route out avoiding roads you won't fit down
Cost £29.99 from App Store not sure how much know
when traveling in France make sure you turn the speed camera app off as you could get arrested for using it

Don't bother with the Aguri, which was recommended by the caravan club. I bought the agr700 for £299.99 it's just a glorified 7in tablet, whent to update maps lost program the lot.

Just bought the Snooper ventura pro 6800 with TPMS, its first outing last friday to dublin a campsite that has great roads from the Northern Ireland all the way to our destination, i had entered all my vehicles detials height width weight, and it refused
to navigate to campsite as unsuitable roads. okay its me possibly doing something wrong i thought, so i headed off to the site without working sat nav, as i travel all over Ireland, i wasnt worried, test two navigate from camac valley campsite to Japanese
gardens and Irish national stud farm, a highly visited place in Ireland, couldnt find it, its POI are usless unless you want Restaurant of every type in the world, and during my entire week using it i have never felt like a complete mug by believeing in the
caravan and camping club, and the caravan clubs reviews as well as other motorhome magazines, i am giving it till this week end to see if its me, I wouldnt recommend this product at all0 -
I like my Garmin Camper. Not least because it has a 7 inch screen which made it the same price as other 7 inch screen sat navs with liftime map up dates and traffic updates too.
£200 from Aldi when it was on specials one Thursday last summer.

the reviews following the recent update are not good (to say the least), citing the removal (to the pay options) for some of the best features, along with clunky, slow (less fast) software.
ill stick to the old TomTom XL for the time being....

Just bought a tomtom 6200 and used it on a couple of runs this weekend, so far so good. like the ability to plan a route online and send to the sat nav via the web so it's ready to go and it's still lot easier to check the route before leaving.
20% off at halford this weekend plus half price accessories so got a cover for a fiver to boot .

Can you provide a link to the reviews please BB. I am running the truck version 9.6.2. on a tablet and that works fine for me. I have read a thread on here that the latest version loads the maps to the internal memory and not an SD card. That was also the
case when I first bought my Co-Pilot but that was soon corrected with an update. I don't use any of the paid for extras, e.g. traffic.peedee

if you have an ipad/iphone its easy to find but i think you might have an android device??

These all refer to the new version 10 for the free car version released on 1/11/2016....i suspect all updates will be similar across the product range.

i suspect the comments were not to do with the platform (as the reviewers also loved the application prior to the update) but to do with whatever has appeared in version 10, which will be the same changes in functionality irrespective of the OS/platform.
i wouldnt update for a while yet......

I'm running the latest version of CoPilot caravan version with traffic on a iPad mini and it's brilliant. The best SatNav I've ever had, and I've had many over the years since they first appeared.
I have used both Garman and TomTom stand alone units as well as TomTom app on my iPhone. I was happy with TT on the iPhone but it became corrupted at some point and is no longer available haveing been replaced with the Go version which I didn't like.

Yes you can a TomTom loaded with Archies POI files and a co-driver who sits with a detailed atlas on her knee too
