Hi all,

I am looking at getting our 1st caravan but have got a couple of queries. I passed my test after 97 so I will have to stick to the total 3.5 rule unless I do another test. My current car is a Honda crv 2.0l automatic and the speciations are as follows.                                                   Curb weight 1,533 - 1,648 kg, max Permissible weight 2,080, max towing weight 1,500 kg so by my calculations I would be able to tow a van around 1300kg mtplm? Is that correct? Also would my car be suitable

Many thanks                                                                               dave

Yes. A 2L (I presume diesel) will readily tow a caravan of that weight.

You should be fine up to a MTPLM of 1420 kg as far as the law is concerned. For beginners it is generally suggested that the caravan weigh no more than 85% of the kerb weight but without the exact figure for your car it is difficult to say what that is. If you enter the cars details on a towing matching site it should be able to help although going a bit over 85% should not be a problem.

The club have a matching site in the advice section atthe bottom of the page.

Dont forget that its the MAXIMUM tow weight and not just the caravan weight. Its a caravan with everything in it eg food, clothes, tv, crockery, bedding to name a few.
